Choosing Not to Return

After we come to know the Lord and begin our relationship with God, we learn that our journey with Him has just started. We discover every day that the ordinary components of life—relationships, emotional security, accomplishments, our profession or position, financial stability or even our cultural or national heritage—can hinder us from fully giving our lives for His purposes and growing closer to Him. One by one, God calls us to walk away from these things.

So as we face the pull of this world and the pressure from the devil to walk away from God’s call to lay down our lives for others, let us remember that we are on earth for only a short time.

And out of that pursuit of Him,...

Promise

When you feel
lonely
sad and hurt

May you hear
His gentle voice
speaking to you

“I will never
leave you nor
forsake you
until your journey
comes to an end.”

I Didn’t Give Up

I didn't give up says Dr. KP Yohannan

He says,
“I am ready to go,
No regrets, none.
This race was long
the battle was tough
But I didn’t give up
nor did I look back.

“I kept my focus
I paid the price
blood, sweat and agony.
Yes, it was worth it all.

“I see Him waiting for me
with my reward in
His nail-pierced hand.”

K.P. Yohannan. “The End of the Race.” Dance Not for Time. GFA Books, 2013, p. 220.

Embrace Brokenness

If I lived to be 120 years old and someone said to me, “You’ve served the Lord since you were 16. Now that you’re older, what is the most important advice you can give to God’s people for their life on earth in the light of the horrendous darkness and need of our world?”

My answer would be very simple: “Be broken.”

Though I am only in my 60s, there is no greater truth I have learned in my journey with the Lord than the significance of embracing the life of brokenness. When it comes to our...

When Your Heart is Broken

Who do you turn to when your heart is broken?

When your heart is broken
When no one understands
When tears turn to rivers
When you lose all hope

There is someone who was broken
There is someone who understands
There is someone who cried
There is someone who is hope

His arms wide open
with love and
compassion
He calls you by name

To mend your broken heart
And to wipe your tears
And to give you hope.

More Things Love Is …

Love is Seeing the Other Side by Dr. KP Yohannan

Love is …

Listening with your heart
Seeking to understand why
Forgiving
Long-suffering
Becoming the other person

Waiting
Overlooking faults
Silence
Being open and honest

Sharing in their need
Defending
Suffering when betrayed
Admitting faults and sin

Showing respect
Seeing the other side
Hoping through faith
Saying “no” and “you are wrong”

Valuing people for them, not what they do
Giving freedom to be themselves

Not intimidating
Being gentle
Soft words
Not jealous
Not arrogant
Not boastful

God’s Thoughts Are Not Our Thoughts

Naaman was raging with anger. He had traveled all the way from Syria with chariots full of gold, silver and expensive gifts for Elisha—and now the prophet wouldn’t even grant him a one-minute audience. And what was worse, Elisha’s servant passed a message to him that he should dip seven times in the Jordan River to be healed of his leprosy (see 2 Kings 5:9–12).

It was a simple, inexpensive ritual he was supposed to perform. No one could make fun of him because he was far away from his homelan...

I Heard Silence Speaking to Me

Silence: Taking time for silent reflection on Gods Word.

I heard silence speaking to me
to be silent
to question my soul
to hear the voice of God.

It is late after midnight
I’ve been sitting alone
leaning against the wooden pillars
in my poomugam* in utter silence.

In silence His voice I heard
of love and mercy
correction and comforts
Peace filled my soul.

K.P. Yohannan. “Silence.” Dance Not for Time. GFA Books, 2013, p. 238.

*A poomugam is a special type of front porch common to many very old houses in the South Indian village where I grew up.

It Takes a Childlike Heart to Believe in God’s Mercies

We can have all our doctrines right and be experts in the Scriptures like the Pharisees, but it will be of no use unless we apply it to our lives by faith.

This was the reason why those Israelites whom God delivered out of Egypt could not enter their promised land: “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it” (Hebrews 4:2).

For the same reason, God cannot answer our prayers...

Listen

Spider had her lunch
with the last fly she trapped;
then she cleaned her house
to avoid suspicion
from her next victim.

Moments later
a fly buzzed by her web.
Spider called out,
“Come on over, fly.
Let’s have a chat.”

“No,” said fly,
as he steered to one side
of the web.

There below,
he saw thousands of flies
dancing on the ground.
He wanted to go
and dance with them.

Bee flew by
and said to the fly,
“Don’t you land there;
you will die.”

“Go your way,
stinging Bee.
I know my people.
They are...
