Prayer of a Hurting Soul

You are the only one, O Lord
who sees and knows
the agony of my troubled heart
and You alone can make me whole.

I am tired and weary
exhausted and drained
for I don’t know what to do
with problems I can’t even define.

Your Word tells me You care
every hair on my head is known to You.
Change my heart by Your grace
cause me to trust You no matter what.

Calm my troubled soul
with Your love and grace
heal my wounds by Your Word
Please help me feel I am safe.

Help me to cast away doubts and fears...

It’s Not Our Place to Judge

James and John were furious. These Samaritans had the gall to close their village to Jesus just because He was traveling to Jerusalem. Instead of being overwhelmed with gratitude that the Jewish Messiah would even set foot on their soil, they closed their doors.

Convinced that these heathens didn’t deserve another breath, the two disciples volunteered to call fire down from heaven, like Elijah, and wipe them out. Jesus rebuked them immediately with these words: “You do not know what manner of...

Paradise Lost

Paradise was lost long before our time, yet I cannot help but be fascinated with it. Sometimes I play the events over in my mind. This poem is part of that movie in my head.

Paradise:
beauty unimaginable.

Flowers
all colors
all combinations
deep green leaves
dancing in the breezes
dew drops sleeping
in the cradle of roses
rocked by breezes
to the mockingbird’s song.

Rivers ran clean
swarming with fish
of all kinds.

Tall, mighty trees
home for birds
in harmony they dwelt
symphony unmatched....

Our Greatest Weapon is Faith That Doesn’t Quit

Thousands of people were pressing against Jesus while He was making His way to Jairus’ house to pray for his gravely sick daughter. They all wanted to get a glimpse of the Man who could heal the sick and do wonders. Perhaps they would hear Him say something important, or better yet, see Him perform a miracle.

And then, all of a sudden, Jesus raised His voice and asked the multitude, “Who touched Me?” (Luke 8:45) His disciples could hardly believe Jesus would ask such a question since every...

I Could Have

I Could Have . . .

I planted an oak
twenty years ago

Now it is grown
to a full tree.

I could have planted one
thirty years ago

Not just one
but a dozen or more.

Time waits for no one
no matter who he is

Do what could be done
the time is now.

When You Get Discouraged Remember the Big Picture

Sometimes, when we get discouraged, the reason is that we have lost sight of the big picture.

There is a story I know about a fish that lost sight of the big picture. A kingfisher swooped down and snatched a tiny fish out of the ocean. It flew over the shoreline, and then suddenly, the bird lost its grip, and the small fish fell into a pond. Half dead, it struggled back to life. Meanwhile, a large fish approached and said, “What are you doing in my kingdom?” The large fish boasted that he...

A thousand voices screaming at me
to meet their demands
to move faster than I was able
I became a restless soul.

A thousand times I was tempted
to throw up my hands
to give up all hope
to lay down and die.

A thousand nights of silence
engulfed my soul
forced me to k...

God Gave Us Jesus & Asks Us to Follow in His Footsteps

One night as I was driving home after Gospel for Asia’s weekly prayer meeting, the engine in my 1962 VW Bug simply stopped. I found myself alone in a dark, quiet neighborhood, standing next to a car that refused to run. I felt helpless, frustrated and sorry for myself.

I called some of our GFA staff to come help me. As I waited for them to arrive, I began thinking about how Jesus would respond to a situation like mine. As I reflected on His attitude toward inconvenience and suffering, the...

Make Me Thy Fuel, Flame of God

Wills Point, Texas – (GFA) Gospel for Asia

We live in a culture in which, unless we consciously and deliberately seek to swim against the current, we will hardly make it as followers of Christ—at least, not the Christ of the New Testament, who said, “And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:27).

The Church at large has adapted to the trends of the culture. Frequently the Christian message is presented in a way that caters to people’s perceived need...

Love is …

Listening with the heart
Expressing your feelings
Sharing your heart
Telling your fears
Crying without shame

Remembering special days
Not forgetting birthdays
Writing a letter
Buying a gift
Writing a poem
Calling on the phone

Spending time together
Praying together
Going on a walk
Giving a hug
Holding hands
A loving look
Going places

Wearing clothes he likes
Cooking tasty food
Bringing coffee in bed
Waiting for him to eat

Not holding back
Receiving with humility

Being there when children a...
