Oh, boy, here we go...
Defer not till tomorrow to be wise; tomorrow's sun to thee may never rise.
That William Congreve - fine and lofty words to chide us, but he himself after one bad review never wrote again. Of course, I haven't read the review in question. It might have been quite a zinger.
But here the thing is. You never really are going to accomplish anything if you're overly concerned with what people think about your work. You're just not. There are too many people, and they each come with their own set of...

Friday Afternoon
Look, I found an oracle and she told me exactly what I wanted to hear today:

Friday Morning
There's a tangle in my head this morning. Let's pull a thread to see what comes out.
I believe - and I have to believe this, you understand; this is one of the core beliefs, the root - that everything cycles and waves. Nature abhors straight lines - if you look, you'll see they're passing hard to find. Exorbitant loops and whorls, twists and turns, cycles and patterns and repetition - that's what little girls are made of.
Little boys, too, for that matter, and wee puppy dogs and the teeny tiny...

The Quality of Life: A Long Rant Written For Someone Who Will Never Read It
You have to make choices in this life. There's no getting around it; it's unavoidable. And there's two tiers of choice making. The conscious level, in which you're fully aware of and invested in the fact you're making a choice and are making efforts, given your own set of personal parameters, to make the best choice possible. The unconscious level of decision making takes place without our full awareness of either the fact a choice exists to be made at all (the way we are proceeding, it is th...

Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine
It is a struggle, some mornings, to be optimistic. Today I'm not having much problem with the power of positive thinking. I'm absolutely positive that given the right amount of provocation (and the right amount would not be all that significant, really, in the grand scale of things) there will be destruction and chaos on a scale that would make Stalin stop in his tracks and go, "Dude. Don't you think that was a little over the top?"
I mean, I'm even pissed at Gandhi. "Forgiveness is giving up...

Living Well Is Only The Beginning Of My Revenge

The first thing I'm thinking is that it is a fundamentally different experience to read these books as a grown woman with a household and family and marriage of my own than it was when I read Wilder when I was a wee little thing. I don't really give a damn, so much, about Laura and her...

This One's For You, Superman.

In the Hall of Solitude
You're going to find some things
That will help you on your journey
Some of this stuff was here
When I got here
Other things I've added
When it's your turn to journey on
Leave it better than you found it
I suppose I don't really have to tell you that.
There are no explanations
No instructions
No guide
You'll have to work it all out on your own
For God's sake, be careful with the invisible submarine.
You've already lost everything
You don't need to hurt yourself too.
But the suit's her...

Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine
There is more than one way for everything to be all right. You're allowed to pick the one you like the best.
Buy a parrot. Teach it to say, "Help! I've been turned into a parrot!"
Harmony graduated from middle school last night. It was pretty awesome. Now she's on her summer vacation; today is the first day, and she's scheduled copious amounts of Sleeping In.
Yesterday's heat broke, today, the clouds are scudding across the sky in a hurry. Perhaps they have exciting plans in other places. I'm g...
