Our guest this week is author Jamie Davis, and author Kat Healy joins Scott as co-host.

Jamie Davis is a nurse, retired paramedic, and author. He loves everything fantasy and sci-fi and especially the places where stories intersect with his love of medicine or gaming. Jamie lives in a home in the woods in Maryland with his wife, three children, and 3 dogs.

He’s also an avid gamer, preferring historical and fantasy miniature gaming, as well as tabletop games. He writes LitRPG and GameLit, urban and contemporary paranormal fantasy stories, sci-fi space westerns among other things. Jamie’s Future Race Game rules were written to satisfy a desire to play a version of the pod races from Star Wars episode 1. He loves hearing from readers online and going to cons and events where he meets up with fans. If you see him, make sure you say “hi!”

In this episode, we chat with Jamie about why he’s doing an exclusive Kickstarter launch for his new urban fantasy series, Uncle Chip Saves the Fae, how the series is connected to another of his urban fantasy series, and why Kickstarter makes sense for authors and readers.

Mel currently resides in Georgia with three cats – who tolerate her. She writes her own version of Urban Science Fiction. If you’re looking for science, aliens, invasions, explosions, and maybe a touch of magic in some series, you’ve found the right author.

She fully admits to being weird, after all she writes about aliens and knows how to milk goats. If you want to talk books, she’ll talk all day long, but admits she hasn’t had time to watch much TV in the last three years, the price of a writing addiction.

Our guest this week is Nicole Grotepas, who also writes under the pen name N.A. Grotepas.

N.A. Grotepas writes stories with snarky female leads discovering their found family and fighting against maniacal Bond-villain types. Her characters typically inhabit fascinating and inviting locations that provide readers with an escape from the “real world.”

N.A. studied folklore in college and after obtaining an M.A., almost pursued a doctorate in the field, but was saved from that drudgery by her laziness in gathering letters of recommendation.

After a stint in the publishing industry as an editor, she left to pursue her own desires of conquering worlds–both real and imagined–one book at a time.

Our guest this week is Ben Zackheim.

Ben Zackheim’s storytelling adventures started as a Production Assistant on the set of the film, A River Runs Through It. After forgetting to bring the crew’s walkie talkies on the first day of shooting, losing Robert Redford’s jacket on a freezing morning, and asking Brad Pitt if he was related to Paul Newman (in front of Paul Newman) he decided that film production didn’t “speak” to him. Since no one else on the set would speak to him either, he knew he needed to find work that required minimal human contact.

Writing. That did the trick. His Relics series has earned praise from readers and author-readers alike.

As a kid, Scott fell in love with the idea of storytelling after watching Star Wars Ep IV (back when it was still known just as “Star Wars”). However, even after completing a B.A. in Creative Writing, Scott didn’t get around to seriously slinging words until decades later.

He hasn’t stopped since.

Scott’s current series – Little Yokai – is an urban fantasy procedural featuring lots of Japanese supernatural spirits and a main character reluctantly working for a magic law enforcement agency. Scott brought his love of Japan and his fascination with Japanese mythology to Little Yokai.

Scott has also designed and produced LARP experiences and has been running original D&D campaigns for years. And he’s been promoting and exploring shared worlds for almost twenty years, so saying yes to writing in the Delta Underground Operatives world was a no-brainer!

From early in life, Kimbra Swain was indoctrinated in the ways of geekdom. Raised on Star Wars, Tolkien, Superheroes, and Voltron, she found herself immersed in a world of imagination. She started writing in high school and completed her English degree from the University of Alabama in 2003.

Her writing is influenced by a gamut of authors including Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery, Timothy Zahn, Kathy Reichs, Kevin Hearne, and Jim Butcher.

Born and raised in Alabama, Kimbra still lives there with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. When she isn’t reading or writing, she plays PC games, makes jewelry, and listens to music.

Kimbra is the creator of the Delta Underground Operatives shared world and one of the twelve authors writing books in the DUO universe.
