I have a new public Instagram art account and today Instagram suggested I follow myself. Should I follow myself…? Should you follow me?

I don’t have the answers to these questions, but I do know my neglect of this Tumblr blog over the last few years was due primarily to my need to not share my new work while it gestated. I won’t be abandoning Tumblr, and I’m gearing up to start sharing work here more often as I clean up and color volume one of Threadworlds.

It bums me out that many of my favorite artists I found here on Tumblr have abandoned it in favor of Instagram. I greatly prefer this platform for sharing and viewing artwork for many, many reasons, but I’ll spare you all the rant.

I’ll try to keep both accounts interesting, at least when I have something interesting to share. Maybe they’ll evolve into two different things, I don’t know. But if you’re into that Instagram thing there’s a new Zuko sketch I did over there:

Hmmm… may have to put Threadworlds on hold to work on the above book.

Study of an alternate angle of the *VISCACHA* (as I was informed on my previous post—thank you!) from Planet Earth II.

EDIT: Tweaked a bit.

My spouse spotted this familiar face in LA today and took this photo. (I added the zooming sequence for dramatic effect.)

In the writers’ room and in storyboard meetings on Avatar: The Last Airbender, we would often get to the end of a script/board and someone would inevitably ask, “Where’s Momo?” We would have forgotten to include him in the story/storyboard, so we’d have to go back and do a Momo pass, figuring out where he was and what he could be doing. If we were clever enough, we’d come up with things that contributed toward the plot; but often they just added a bit of comic and/or cute animal relief while answering the question of his whereabouts.

And despite those efforts, even after that, the directors would turn in their final shipping boards and inevitably get them back with several Post-It notes attached to various scenes from our checker, Cathy. These notes read: Where’s Momo?

Happy birthday to my old pal Angela Song Mueller, character designer on Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, now an art director at DreamWorks TV. That’s her dog, Sophie, whom we used as the inspiration for those spirit fox librarian dudes in Wan Shi Tong’s library.
