I’ve been looking at pictures of Antarctica and wanting to paint those colors. So I did a new version of a very old concept from Avatar, one of the earliest drawings I did for the project and still one of my favorites, which you can see in this page from our “Art of the Animated Series” book from Dark Horse.

First I was a month early for the Avatar series finale’s 10th anniversary, and now I’m a day late. Andrew Whalen at Newsweek published an article last night about the making of the 4-part finale, featuring new interviews with directors Joaquim Dos Santos @jds_77 and Ethan Spaulding @ethanspauldingart3633 and series co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino @mike_dante_d and me. The link is below if you want to learn a bit of ancient history:

Messed around with that old unused Zuko promo sketch. Thought it would be fun to add some color and lighting. Turns out it *was* fun. #zuko #avatarthelastairbender

We’re proud to celebrate one of our favorite LGBTQ couples this Pride Month, Korrasami!Art by Irene Koh (aka @prom-knight), the talented artist behind the Legend of Korra graphic novel.
Korra and Asami made their TV debut in Book 1 of The Legend of Korra when the show (created by @michaeldantedimartino & @bryankonietzko) first aired back in April 2012. Their adventure (and romance) continues in the @darkhorsecomics graphic novels today!
It’s beautiful! Thank you Irene, and thanks Nickelodeon! Happy Pride Month!!!

Hannah Gadsby’s “Nanette” is one of the most powerful single hours of anything I’ve ever seen. I think it should be required viewing for all humans, or at least hetero, cis, males such as myself. If you need some set up: Hannah is a comedian leaving comedy and this is her final performance — but it feels like the start of something big. *Trigger warning for emotionally intense discussion of sexual violence.

Mike and I were informed that today — June 19, 2018 (CORRECTION: *JULY* 19) — marks the 10th anniversary of the airing of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s finale episode. The international, multigenerational community built around this series we created together has grown so much over the past decade… It’s overwhelming. A HUGE thanks to everyone for the continued support and interest in the world, characters, stories, and animation we had the opportunity to manifest with the invaluable help and enrichment of so many talented, hardworking, dedicated people.
Love, Bryke
