Here is the slipcase and cover art I recently did for a new upcoming Blu-ray release of the complete Avatar: The Last Airbender series. They figured out a way to uprez the footage from the original masters. The Blu-ray will be available exclusively from Best Buy starting May 1st, then available nationally starting June 5th. IGN has some more info at this link:
It was the 13th anniversary of the premiere earlier this week; the 15th anniversary of when Mike and I created the series is coming up this spring; and it’s the 10th anniversary of the finale later this year.
You can see some process images from these covers over at my new Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/bryankonietzko/

A little trip down memory lane. This is a small fight sequence I story boarded between Su and Kuvira. It’s short but packs a punch. Love the backstory here between these two as it added a ton to the stakes of this battle. I must admit I do miss staging these fights. What a fantastic show to be a part of. #korra #Lok #legendofkorra #storyboard #kuvira #sulinbeifong #joaquimdossantos #
Joaquim Dos Santos has left a long trail of incredible and memorable action scenes in his wake, and it would be tough to say which one was his “best,” or even which one is my favorite. But if I had to try, this fight would easily be up there near the top of that list. The dynamics, timing, flow, and clarity of this sequence are all top-notch. It’s no mystery that when Mike and I got the opportunity to make Korra, the first person we turned to was Joaquim.

My short film, Blossom Detective Holmes Pilot Episode is now available!
I want to expand this into a short mini-series. And the only way I can do it was going to Kickstarter. So, I just have launched the Kickstarter campaign. Please watch this pilot episode and if you like it or love it, and if you want to see this into a show, please support my campaign at Kickstarter - http://kck.st/2rU8MXB
Thanks!!
P.S - Reblog? b/c you are an angel to me
Steve Ann, a very talented animator who was an assistant director on Korra and a director on Voltron, produced an original animated short with the help of some other awesome Korra/Voltron crew friends of ours. Steve did all the animation by himself…! It’s incredible… He launched a KickStarter so they can make additional episodes. I went to the launch party and that’s where we took this blurry photo.

A recent color/cleanup test for Threadworlds. I’m just about to finish the rough layouts of volume one… It’s LONG. Very eager to start digging into making the final pages. I’ll announce info about the release when I can but it is going to be a while before it’s out — which has its pros and cons. But it will feel amazing to hold the real thing in my hands one day.

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
Paris, at the dawn of the modern age:
Prince Sebastian is looking for a bride—or rather, his parents are looking for one for him. Sebastian is too busy hiding his secret life from everyone. At night he puts on daring dresses and takes Paris by storm as the fabulous Lady Crystallia—the hottest fashion icon in the world capital of fashion!
Sebastian’s secret weapon (and best friend) is the brilliant dressmaker Frances—one of only two people who know the truth: sometimes this boy wears dresses. But Frances dreams of greatness, and being someone’s secret weapon means being a secret. Forever. How long can Frances defer her dreams to protect a friend? Jen Wang weaves an exuberantly romantic tale of identity, young love, art, and family. A fairy tale for any age, The Prince and the Dressmaker will steal your heart.
As I posted on Jen Wang’s Instagram yesterday, I was really looking forward to this book, then I saw an advance copy in Mark Siegel’s office when I was in NY for Comic Con. I started reading it and was immediately captivated — it was even more amazing than I had hoped! But before long we had to leave, so I tried to take the book with me but it was Mark’s only copy and he gave me sad puppy dog eyes so I relented… I can’t wait to get my own copy and read the rest. Wonderful work, Jen!
