I just revised this painting I did of Naga back in 2012. It was a fun little exercise to address issues that I was aware of back then but which were beyond my understanding. Just trying to push the rock a few more inches up the mountain, year by year…

Korra and Asami's Love Has Been Immortalized as an Adorable Avatar Statue
The Korrasami statue from Mondo is now available for pre-orders! If you click on the link you can see a turntable GIF of the whole statue and some detail shots. Thanks to Mondo for coming to us with this awesome project, and to all the artists, sculptors, and painters who worked with me on the design and execution. I’m really happy with how it came out and can’t wait to have one on my desk.

These are the very first pieces of Avatar fan art. I know that because they were made before the series was even animated (when Katara was still named Kya). They were drawn by my nephew Alexander, in 2002/2003 when he was 7. We included them in the back of our series bible. Now he’s a 22-year-old, 6’3” college student, visiting me in LA this week. The last photo in the set shows me holding him when I was around his current age at my graduation from RISD in ‘98. (I was wearing an Iguanaman costume, a character my friend Michelle created.)

I’m heartbroken over the continuing, senseless, preventable violence; and I’m encouraged by the amazing teens’ response. You’ve likely seen the figure going around that 4 million teens will turn 18 before the midterm elections this year. To quote my favorite sign from this year’s Women’s March in LA: “Grab ‘Em By The Midterms”
