Spaghetti = Awesome

IMG_4124

I recently traveled to Spain for two weeks and one of the first meals I had there was a Spanish version of spaghetti bolognese. As I was eating it dawned on me that spaghetti with meat sauce is my “go to” comfort food whenever I travel to some foreign place. It may even be a partial cure for jet lag. I’ve probably just ruined any notion you might have had about me having sophisticated tastes. (Although, if you read Jane’s World you aren’t surprised in the least.)

As I sat in Malaga enjoying my...

Stinky Cecil: February 2015

Stinky Cecil hits the presses for a February 2015 release from Andrews McMeel Publishing. Just got the cover proof and I’m really happy with the way the color turned out. Starting to get really excited about seeing the finished book in print!

Technology… argh!

I could blame technology… but it’s really my typing skills that are at fault. There was a typo in the “date” field of the files I normally upload to GoComics… so here’s what you missed!

Very funny editorial conversation

I love it when I have to run highly intellectual questions by my editor (Shena) at Uclick. Today’s topic would have been especially funny if anyone had hacked in.

Me: Can I say “ass” on GoComics? What about “damn?” I mean using the phrase “fat ass red neck” doesn’t really have the same sting unless you can actually use the word “ass.”

The short answer is, no. You can’t say “ass” or “damn” and especially not “goddam,” which I appreciate. Thank you, Shena, for being such a cool editor and allowin...

Wisdom worth sharing

Saw this on Twitter today. Felt compelled to share. Gail Simone is a total badass. Do yourself a favor and give this a read and share it with any young woman trying to break into comics.

A message to aspiring female cartoonists…

Gail Simone is currently writing Red Sonya.

Jack in Red

I’ve been having a lot of fun doing illustration work for some author’s I really enjoy. This most recent image happened to be for my pen pal, Kim Baldwin. Her writing partner, Xenia said, “Use lots of red.” That’s all I needed to hear.

For fans of the Elite Operatives Series: Jack, a central figure in nearly all the EOO books (yes, she’s back in One Last Thing, out in January!) Here’s the illustration that I did for Xenia Alexiou and Kim Baldwin. Merchandise coming soon, stay tuned!

Rednecks on the Red Planet!

Mars2 back cover FINAL

Hey, The Martian Confederacy is live on GoComics now! (BTW, this pose of Spinner above, was inspired by a vintage sticker of Steve Austin, the six million dollar man, that my brother had on the back of his old Hot Wheels carrying case.)

Stinky Cecil in living color!

I worked like crazy this weekend to finish up the color for Stinky Cecil. I like to think of the color theme for this book (well a lot of the pages anyway) as “Ice Cream and Sherbet.” Just thought I’d share a few pages…

Why I Decided to Attend Phoenix Comic Con Despite of SB 1062

JaneAndSkye2

Previously unpublished color image of Skye and Jane.

As some of my Jane’s World fans already know, I’m attending Phoenix Comicon this week. I’m really looking forward to it! But it’s interesting to note that right about the time I got the invite to attend as a guest, Arizona’s House of Representatives had just passed a controversial bill that would have allowed business owners, based on the assertion of their religious beliefs, to deny service to LGBTQ customers.

My wife Evelyn actually had con...
