“As the cartoonist behind the strip “Jane’s World,” Paige Braddock has enjoyed a lengthy career. She’s been working on the strip since it debuted in 1991, taking time along the way to dip her toe into the world of graphic novels, like “The Martian Confederacy.” In the late ’90s, Braddock was hired by the late Charles Schulz...

Jane’s New Career

I’m currently working on the Jane’s World novelization, “The Case of the Mail Order Bride,” so today I took a tour of the library in downtown Santa Rosa, CA. If you remember we did a contest last year to find out what Jane’s new career path would be. Librarian won out. The only problem with that wasI needed to find out a lot more of what’s involved in working at a library. Rachel, shown below, was kind enough to give me all the behind the scenes scoop. I learned a lot, which hopefully will on...

Cecil made his debut yesterday at LumaCON in Petaluma. It was a great event. Lots of kids, parents, teens and LOTS of superheroes. Next up on the calendar is the official “Stinky Cecil” book release party at the Schulz Museum. I hope to see you there and in the meantime, keep an eye on StinkyCecil.com for updates!

JW_Bride_cover-copy

Proposed cover art, sans title: Inks by Paige Braddock, Color by Brian Miller

The exploration of lgbt comics is a growing interest of mine. Because of that, I askedPaige Braddock to stop by and give us a little insight as she transitions her series from comic to novel. I think you’ll find her post as interesting as I did. ~brandon shire

Jane’s World: The Novel!

JW_Bride_cover_gray

Partial cover illustration

Some of you may have heard today that the next Jane’s World edition will be published by Bold Strokes Books. I’m very excited to confirm this report. This work of fiction will include illustrations at the beginning of each chapter, but will be a prose novel rather than a full graphic novel. Here’s a little bit about the book:

Jane’s PayBuddy account gets hacked and she inadvertently purchases a mail-order...

Funny stuff inspired by Watterson

Bill Watterson did this amazing poster for Angouleme. A very cool comic event in France that I was lucky enough to attend a couple of years ago:

Waterson-toon

The story of his comic reminded of a true life thing that happened to me back in the day when I lived in Atlanta.

I used to let my dog, Scout, out in the back yard first thing in the morning. I’d be standing there in my backyard in a t-shirt and boxers (cause it was the south and it’s warm by 8:00 a.m.). My roommate had this cat, Jeff, who liked to sta...

What’s Her Story: Carrying on the ‘Peanuts’ Legacy While Drawing Her Own, Too

Excerpt from an interview by Jay Croft, via StoryCroft:

The “Peanuts” holiday shows are seasonal classics enjoyed now by several generations. Starting with Halloween’s “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and going through to “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” the beloved comic strip characters Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Woodstock and, of course, Snoopy work their magic every time.

But for Paige Braddock, the “Peanuts” gang is a year-round job of spreading sweet bliss. She is the creative directo...
