#JanesNewJob… And the winner is…!

desk

Late last night I was going through all the concepts for Jane’s new career venture that I’ve received via email. It was really a great group of suggestions and any number of them could have landed Jane in some funny situations. And in the end, I decided on two of the suggestions. Because like so many of us who have creative pursuits, we end up having a day job to help pay the bills.

A big THANK YOU goes out to Bob Johnson and H E Sweeney for the career track trajectories they suggested!

#JanesNewJob

I wanted to share a few of the suggestions I’ve gotten for Jane’s next career move. (I’ve illustrated a few of them below.) But here are some of the ideas for Jane: Pizza delivery person to the International Space Station, opening a health food shop, PR representative (to a B list celebrity), data entry clerk, dog walker, cat care consultant, t-shirt designer, film critic, novelist, screenwriter, research assistant to a novelist, personal assistant, garbage collector, life coach (that’d be a...

Funny sequence from JW… where do ideas come from.

I was pulling together comics for the Charlotte paper and came across this sequence that is definitely worth sharing. I was recently in a place where it’s not really safe for “public displays of affection” between same sex couples and then today stumbled across this series I did after a particularly long road trip. This series originally was published in Issue 12 of Jane’s World I think. I know for sure the whole story arc is collected in the big Omnibus collection. Anyway, I wanted to share...

Jane_contemplative

JANE NEEDS A NEW JOB, and she’s calling on her loyal fans for help. Jane has had a long and terrific career working at the local newspaper, until the fateful decision made by the corporate bean counters to hire zombies to work the metro desk. They put aluminum foil in the microwave, igniting a small electrical fire in the break room that then spread to the entire building. What was left of the newspaper staff after initial layoffs moved into a very cozy (aka: small) trailer near the burn site...

A tribute to our furry friends

Sunday-Mon-olive

I’m realizing now that without a dog in my life, I’m adrift. I realized of course that I would miss Olive greatly, but I mistakenly thought that without Olive’s “snack dance” at the crack of dawn every morning that I would sleep in. But I don’t. I wake up and instinctively want to feed someone.

I’m adrift. I don’t have to go outside in the chilly morning air in my flannel lounge pants, with my coffee while my furry friend sniffs every blade of grass before finding just the right one. As a matt...

A Strange Tale

JamesAgeeSketch

I was in Knoxville, Tennessee a week ago to do a workshop on comics. Evelyn and I got there earlier than expected the afternoon before my presentation so we decided to walk around my old neighborhood. I lived off campus in “the fort” in an old turn of the century house that had been divided up into apartments. I was pleased to see the house still there, although a bit worse for wear… but here’s the weird part of the story. My first portrait assignment for my first “real” newspaper job was for...

Meet Your Creator: Paige Braddock (Jane’s World)

At GoComics, we pride ourselves in having a wide array of content. Humor knows few boundaries, from slapstick to social commentary. The newest submission for our Meet Your Creator series comes from Paige Braddock, cartoonist of “Jane’s World”. As Paige would describe her work, “there is a lot of girl-on-girl action.” The protagonist is a lesbian woman who deals with a roommate, relationship drama, alien appearances, fist fights and a lot of come...
