Hugs for the Holiday
Once I was older, I realized the holidays were equal parts stress and joy. Thanksgiving may be my favorite because the only real expectation is that you’ll show up and over eat. At which I feel I excel. That’s not what this blog post is about though.
I’ve heard from a few Jane’s World fans that they are having anxieties about the holidays. One reader sent me a very touching email to say that Jane’s World was the only place she could relax, things are stressful with her family since she came ou...

Frogs, Toads and the Apocalypse
As some of you may know, last year, I put together a zine for the Alternative Press Expo, titled: Apocalypse Pond. It was a little short story featuring three frogs and a menacing plastic water bottle.
What you may not know is that this little zine was the culmination of 2 years of sketches in margins of frogs. I was talking with my friend, Nomi, recently and she was saying it’s good to pay attention to what you find yourself mindlessly sketching during meetings… because sometimes those little...

Ladies Room Epilogue
You won’t believe this story!
So we went to another movie this week. It was deadsville, no one in the lobby but me. I decide to use the restroom before seeing the movie. I’m walking across the empty lobby and as I’m heading toward the restrooms I’m thinking to myself, should I test my theory and use the men’s room? And then I think nah… no one’s around, plus, I’m wearing a long dress coat and salmon colored pants… no way I can pass as a guy. But wait! As I’m 20 feet from the door a middle aged...

Trouble in the Ladies Room!
I don’t know if anyone else has this experience (actually, I know some of you do), but lately, public restrooms have been a traumatic experience for me. I did this comic a few months ago after a random encounter with an elderly lady (actually I made her look older than she actually was) and now, life seems to be imitating art… more often than not. Just last night for example, after we saw a movie, I stopped off at the restroom and not one, BUT TWO women gave me grief for being in the women’s...

“Changing the world through comics”
Big thank you to, Jai Sen for this piece he wrote about Jane’s World. He had written a very a kind and thoughtful piece about creating comics featuring gay characters in a mainstream world. Here’s an excerpt:
“So if there’s one undeniably subversive thing about Braddock’s work, it’s this: her insistence on drawing for us a world in which the torturous crawl through hatred, unrest, persecution, and prejudice that many of us know as some part of our reality has reached the only conclusion that w...
