Reblog if you care more about one human life than another?

I keep seeing this blog going around:

"Four teenage boys have commited suicide in 3 weeks due to being bullied because of their sexuality. Reblog if you're more concerned about this than Lindsay Lohan going to rehab."

The fact that these boys were bullied is tragic. The fact that they felt so lost and alone and ashamed that they had no other choice but to take their own lives is a direct result of hate and intolerance and shameful ignorance.

But why pit them against a young starlet who is also suffering in her own way - despite your judgment. Addiction is a disease. In fact, we lost Greg Giraldo, a comic genius, yesterday to addiction and what's the difference? Because Lindsay is still alive it's okay for you to say one life is more important than another? If she died yesterday, which she very well could have, would you be singing the same tune?

Those boys were gay because they had no choice. If you think addicts have a choice in the matter, you're more often than not very wrong. They can choose to get help if they have a loving support system but even then sometimes it just doesn't work.

So how about not judging so much and instead supporting people to love whoever they want to love, and to get help when they know they need help?

Anything else is inadequate.

Some things should never be done pre-caffeine

Like, pretty much everything.

Mechanical Meltdown at The Social Network Screening

I was so excited to go see The Social Network last night at a WGA screening with a Q&A from Aaron Sorkin after the film. The truth is I was already going to a screening of the movie tomorrow night but when I found out Sorkin would be doing the Q&A,  I rudely canceled my plans and went to this one. They were really tight with the seats and took everyone's cell phones before we entered the theater. The host of the event welcomed us and announced that Aaron Sorkin would be there when the film ended—at which point someone in the audience yells out, "To collect his cell phone?" which garnered a good laugh. (What do you expect in a theater full of writers?)

                                                                                                                            Cut to:

Everyone in the theater super-excited when the lights go down, only to have The Social Network projected onto the big screen…with no sound. After about 45 minutes of the lights going up and down and the film starting and restarting, some dude came to the front of the theater to apologize for the situation and offered each of us one free movie ticket to see another movie of our choice at some other time.

Really? No movie? No Sorkin?

DISAPPOINTED.

I can't give you a review, not that I would have, I leave that to the pros. But I can tell you that the first minute of the film looked promising.

I think.

Max wants to know if you have any extra food? Yes, he's wearing a t-shirt. His friend Karyn went to the Oprah show yesterday and bought him an "Oprah" shirt. He looks especially handsome and he appreciates the shirt but he'd have preferred a sandwich.
