CocoRosiePhoto Credit: Rodrigo JardonCocoRosie have just released a new video from their new album, Tales Of A GrassWidow, for the poignant song "Child Bride."  Click Here To View "Child Bride" Directed by Emma Freeman, "Child Bride" is an intimate and powerful statement of a video, exploring themes of feminism, sexism, child abuse, human rights and gender inequalities through the brutal circumstances that often result from an arranged marriage. Never ones to back down in the face of controversy, CocoRosie's moving new video is not easily forgettable.  Along with the release of CocoRosie's "Child Bride" video comes the launch of Girls Against God (GAG), a new print magazine born from the creative union of Bianca Casady and artist Anne Sherwood Pundyk. With a concentration on bold, feminist exploration, GAG aims to illuminate the oppressive, obsolete nature of traditional, male-defined religions and other patriarchal institutions. Each page of the tabloid-sized publication is lush with colorful perspectives from an international cadre of artists. GAG Issue 1 includes contributors: Antony, Gabby Bess, Melanie Bonajo, Vaginal Davis, Yasmine Hadan, Emely Neu, Kembra Pfahler, Marguerite Stern, Alexyss K. Tylor; and contributions from Johanna Constantine, Mary Hanlon, Julie Higonnet, Molly O’Brien, Chloe Olewitz, Alice O’Malley, Kara L. Rooney, and J.M. "CocoRosie is perplexing. Their name foretells the hybridization of sound they create, a heterogeneous concoction of pitches and instrumentation. At its shrillest registers, the music is haunting. It cuts through midnight fog like the rays of a lighthouse on a distant shore. " BULLETT"The ladies' vocal performance is operatic and beautiful in a creepy, singing porcelain doll sort of way." Spin"Primitive and ultra-modern, dark and enchanting, tranquil and energetic." Billboard"This track is beaming with Tom Waits’s Little Sister In Art School style." Stereogum"They manage to channel their love for the organic and the electronic into something that feels fresh and otherworldly, as the song slips from its medieval pump organ intro into an almost Timbaland-esque beat". The Guardian"The mixture of beatbox percussion, ethereal synth, and beautifully melancholic piano have been molded into a compelling track that will have you choking back tears." NOISEY"Enchanting..." The New Yorker"Like filmmaker Matthew Barney or photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, the sisters are still part of an elite cadre of artists who can make something intriguing enough to command a reaction and questions on both sides of their fence. And isn’t that the point of creativity?" URB"A steady ambience of dark wistfulness." American Songwriter"It’s deeply artsy music given a sugary pop sheen, yet CocoRosie make zero artistic sacrifices." Aritzia"A unique pop gem: a veritable mixed bag of drum machines, random guitar samples, glitzy synths, and vocals ranging from elegant songbird to child-like mumble." Consequence of Sound "CocoRosie return to claim their visionary genre-bending throne built for two." Smallpools debut EP out now via RCA Records

Out Now: Smallpools EP on RCA Records – listen via Pigeons & Planes HERE  (EP free to share)

Idolator Exclusive Music Video
Premiere for Single “Dreaming” HERE

hi res HERE

Tour with San Cisco Started: in NYC on 7/22 and wraps in LA on 8/13 (full list of tour dates below)

Smallpools’ debut 4-track EP is out now via RCA Records, which can be streamed via Pigeons & Planes HERE (EP free to share). Idolator exclusively revealed the first official music video for the single “Dreaming” HERE (free to share). The Los Angeles 4-piece started their first ever tour with Australia’s San Cisco. The foursome consists of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums).

Mason Jar” shows the band’s signature sound, which Scanlon talked about with Billboardas trying to make "the most interesting melody over the most feel-good chord progression possible," while also serving up something new and refreshing. Check out more from their Billboard interview.

Neon Gold calls “Mason Jara sepia splash of power-pop that crystallizes into a starscraping smash before the verse even kicks in, as stadium-sized Of Monsters And Men gang vocals ride high on the buoyant flair of Smallpools' youthful, Two Door-esque ebullience.” The indie pop band shared a “Dreaming” remix by The Chainsmokers HERE. In addition NYLON Magazine premiered the Charli XCX vs Twin Idol Remix of “Dreaming”.

Their first single “Dreaming” was produced by Captain Cuts and instantly shot to #1 of Hype Machine within the first 3 days of its revealing. You can hear “Dreaming” HERE. Smallpools explains his song by saying: "In contrast to the upbeat vibe of the music, the song talks about a moment where everything goes wrong in a situation where you thought you had it all figured out.  A moment we've all experienced to some degree, but most often if we're lucky, in a dream where we get to wake up in a sweat and say, "Phewf, ok, that wasn't real."

One thing is certain though, Smallpools love to dream and they are just getting started.

Rounded out by Gregg Giuffre and Thomas Martin on drums and bass, Hunters have shared the stage with bands such as The KillsMETZBleachedJEFF The Brotherhood and A Place To Bury Strangers, with a dynamic live show that SPIN called "a keg/key party attended by the Vaselines, and early '90s Thurston and Kim." This summer they will open for Hunx and His Punx as they embark on a string a dates in August. MOBY Watch Moby’s new video for “A Case For Shame”   New album, Innocents OUT October 1st, 2013

The video narrative is as follows: I've drowned, and I've gone to an after-life inhabited by people who are concealing themselves because of shame.   The masks are not meant to be conventionally frightening, the masks and sheets are being worn because the after-life people are hiding, because they're ashamed." - Moby     Moby is one of the most individual forces in electronic and popular music today. He has sold over 20 million albums and is back with arguably one of the best albums of his career, Innocents.   Moby chose to make this record with a stellar cast. "Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age" from Nouvelle Vague producer

NOUVELLE VAGUE PRODUCER OLIVIER LIBAUX’S
UNCOVERED QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
OUT NOW ON MUSIC FOR MUSIC LOVERS

“Olivier Libaux is a prolific songwriter, performer, and producer.”—Entertainment Weekly
“Olivier Libaux’s new music is nothing if not timely.”—SPIN  “Olivier Libaux’s Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age came out of nowhere with its subtle, seductive and heart-rending covers of tunes by Queens of the Stone Age.”—“Echoes” “Standouts include Guatemala’s Gaby Moreno, Ambrosia Parsley of Shivaree, Iceland’s Emiliana Torrini (sounding less Bjork-like than she often does on her own albums), and especially Inara George (TheBird and the Bee). George is the only vocalist who performs on two tracks, and her studied detachment on “No One Knows” and “Hangin’ Tree” might induce chills.—Mother Jones
“Producer Olivier Libaux is obviously in it for more than just a laugh...The arrangements are more richly detailed and cinematic in scope, the singers free to wail as much as whisper.”Pitchfork Nouvelle Vague producer Olivier Libaux’s Uncovered Queens Of The Stone Age is out now on Music For Music Lovers.  Entertainment Weekly recently premiered the video for No One Knows” featuring vocals from Inara George which can be viewed [HERE] and praised Libaux for his “awesomely lounge-lizardy grooves” while The Wall Street Journal heralded Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age “flips that manly air on its head with a dozen versions of the band’s songs sung by women.”  Uncovered Queens Of The Stone Age is a compilation of covers from across QOTSA’s discography, performed by a cast of female singers in a mélange of styles from folk to bossa nova. Libaux is a founding member of the French band Nouvelle Vague, known for their bossa nova-style covers of post punk and new wave hits—thus, he is no stranger to cover songs. For this album, Libaux hoped to “take things to another level.” A longtime QOTSA fan, Libaux reached out to the band’s leader Josh Homme to ask for his permission before starting the project. Homme sanctioned the album enthusiastically, calling it a “fantastic idea.”Uncovered QOTSA features 12 tracks intricately arranged and produced by Libaux at his home in Paris. Libaux recorded the backing arrangements, then sent them to his performers, who would send him back their vocals. The songs were mixed by Frédéric Carayol at Mercredi 9 Studio and Mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound in New York. A different singer performs each song on Uncovered QOTSA, except Inara George, who performs two.For “No One Knows,” Libaux selected George, one half of the band The Bird and the Bee. George recorded test vocals for Libaux on her laptop while traveling, and Libaux found her interpretation so perfect that he chose not to re-record the track in a proper studio, stating “I can’t even understand how Inara managed to deliver such mixed feelings (emotion, loneliness, beauty, hope and concern) in one take.” Other performers include award winning Korean jazz singer Youn Sun Nah, acclaimed American singer-songwriter Alela Diane, and many more. Olivier Libaux founded French pop group Les Objets and co-founded Nouvelle Vague with Marc Collin in 2004. Les Objets released two albums and was a critical success in France with two music videos directed by Michel Gondry. Of Nouvelle Vague’s self-titled first album, NPR said “In its own quiet way, the juxtaposition of sunny music and aching lyrics makes [the covers] work as well as the originals.” The commercial success of the album allowed the band to tour extensively. Numerous Nouvelle Vague covers have been featured in film and television. Their cover of Modern English’s “I Melt with You” was including the 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith and television shows including “The Hills,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23” as well as advertisements for GMC, Vicks and T-Mobile. Libaux has also released two critically successful solo albums and has collaborated with artists such as Carla Bruni, Alex Gopher, Emilie Simon and Helena Noguerra. Olivier Libaux, Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age TracklistingRiver In The Road performed by Rosemary StandleyMedication performed by Katharine WhalenBurn The Witch performed by Clare ManchonNo One Knows performed by Inara GeorgeIn My Head performed by Susan Dillane3’s and 7’s performed by SkyeTangled Up In Plaid performed by Gaby MorenoThe Blood Is Love performed by Ambrosia ParsleyRunning Joke performed by Youn Sun NahHangin’ Tree performed by Inara GeorgeGo With The Flow performed by Emiliana TorriniI Never Came performed by Alela Diane

Paste Premieres Jake Bellows's "All Right Now" MP3

Paste Premieres Jake Bellows's "All Right Now" MP3Debut Solo Album New Ocean Out August 6 On Saddle Creek Download: "All Right Now" via Paste or SoundCloudWatch: New Ocean Album Trailer via YouTube Paste has premiered Jake Bellows's new MP3 "All Right Now" from his debut solo album
New Ocean out August 6 on Saddle Creek. Paste said, "New Ocean covers a wide spectrum of styles... and, according to Bellows, is about 'relinquishing the fear of death and recognizing that we are all part of the same thing.'" Rolling Stone recently premiered "I Know You" from New Ocean as a Daily Download. The track is also available to post and share via SoundCloud New Ocean was recorded at Omaha's ARC Studios with engineer Ben Brodin (Before the Toast and Tea, Conor Oberst), Ryan Fox (The Good Life), Todd Fink (The Faint), and Heath Koontz (Neva Dinova). New Ocean is now available for pre-order on CD & LP via Saddle Creek and limited edition cassette through Majestic Litter.
Jake Bellows had quit music. Or so he thought.   After fronting Neva Dinova for more than 15 years, which included five full-lengths, a split EP, and countless tours, he packed up his dog and moved from his native Omaha to his girlfriend's hometown of Los Angeles. Two days before he left he recorded 18 demos with musician and engineer Ben Brodin at Brodin's insistence. Once in L.A., Bellows got a job installing sliding-glass doors and sold his Les Paul to buy a Datsun pick-up truck.
Though he had no plans to form a new band, he played the occasional solo show, performed with Whispertown, and continued to write songs. In early 2011, an invitation arrived from Omaha's Film Streams Theater for Jake's old friend Ryan Fox also living on the West Coast, to perform an original live film-score. Fox enlisted Bellows and Brodin to collaborate and the trio began to compose and discuss improvisational ideas over long-distance. Since they were all going to be in Omaha and had a long history of playing in each other's bands, Brodin and Fox nudged Bellows into booking studio time to record some of his dormant songs.
Fox and Bellows drove from LA to Omaha that November. They entered ARC Studios for a feverish recording session, arranging and writing parts on the fly with an impromptu band including Heath Koontz, Todd Fink, Whispertown bandmate Morgan Nagler and other old friends. Committing quickly to intuitive arrangements the band recorded 17 tracks in a little more than a week. They worked remotely on the record throughout that winter and spring, adding overdubs in basements and bedrooms across western North America.
The group reunited in Omaha to debut the new songs at a couple of shows the following June. Excited to release the new material on their own terms the band put out a preview EP on cassette, Help, at the end of 2012. The new music is underpinned by philosophical conviction and shaped by an interest in physics, cosmology and mythology. Bellows returned to music with a renewed sense of the intrinsic value of art and its ability to express the commonality of human experience. His debut full-length, New Ocean, offers a mix tape of different kinds of songs hanging out on one record - love songs that are not necessarily ballads despite their introspective gauziness, with left turns into drunk-in-the-sun bossa nova and blue-eyed-soul ruptured by fuzz guitar. Bellows believes that songs change the fabric of the universe through the very frequencies they emit. As such, the record attempts to create the world he wants to see instead of reflect the world that is.

Strokes Legend Albert Hammond Jr. Shows Noisey His Guitar

Hey Guys and Girls,

VICE love the Strokes and when I say that I'm talking about both the tunes and the guys. I mean back in 2001, VICE and them probably crisscrossed each other a gazillion times from Max Fish to Brownies and all over the LES. What I'm saying is there's history, kinda like VICE and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Fun times. So when Albert Hammond Jr. agreed to be featured on Noisey's Guitar Moves, it felt like having one of your buddies roll thru. In the ninth episode of Guitar Moves, host Matt Sweeney meets Albert Hammond Jr. to discus 90's style riffs, influences, and how to impress your mom. Even though he rocks his guitar strap unusually high, Hammond Jr. gives pointers to guitar players on how to be less cheesy and more badass.

First known for his work as the creative force behind The Smiths, Marr has spent the last two decades collaborating with a diverse array of acclaimed bands, including Talking Heads, Pet Shop Boys, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse, The Cribsand more.
