HAWKS TOUR W/ BUILDINGS KICKS OFF IN LA AUGUST 13TH

HAWKS TOUR WITH BUILDINGS KICKS OFF IN LA AUGUST 13TH WITH TWO SHOWS!
ALBUM OUT NOW THROUGH LEARNING CURVE RECORDS Hawks have been practicing the art of carelessness and reckless abandon, taking what they have learned and shoving it into your face. Their efforts in mangled detached noise have come to a full head on Push Over, the band’s debut release on Learning Curve Records. The Atlanta quartet has been mashing out menacing boot stomps since 2007, building a rich and devoted following by continuing to release challenging material and putting on twisted and downright menacing live performances.
Dark raconteur, weaving tales of masochistic need, failed hopes, and frustrations into each epic fable. The twisted nature of Hawks hymns will have you rethinking the line of what makes good and evil. Blurring it with a haze of sonic obliteration, guitars that sound like rusted wires stretched over the frets, rhythms that pull you into a trance moving like a fire moves thru a burning building. All topped with primal narrative blending into bedlam and entropy. Bellicose and indomitable is what the Hawks portray on Push Over. It is the soundtrack of a ominous sinister sideshow of life. Listen to 'White Crosses' here Watch 'Borne Of Wasps/Shitfist' here
Next month, they hit the West Coast for select dates with Minneapolis faves, Buildings. Dates are as follows.
Aug 13th - Origami Vinyl (6pm) and The Smell (9.30pm) - Los Angeles, CA
Aug 14th - Hemlock Tavern - San Francisco, CA
Aug 15th - Club 21 - Portland, OR

FYF FEST 2013

FYF FANZINE CONTEST:Last year we held a mixtape contest. The concept was simple, make a mix tape and send it to us. The reason we did this is that we wanted you to create something. The response was massive and over 700 mix tapes were sent in. This year we decided to work off that idea, for you to create something but instead made it into a fanzine contest.
Fanzines were a huge part of my life and actually were how FYF started. In 2000, my friends and I put out our first fanzine called the Blacklist. I came up with the name but I didn't tell them I got it from a song by Rancid. For four years, we released issues of teenage angst and, well, yeah a lot of that. We didn't know what we were doing but it was an excuse to get together, come up with bad ideas (try to stay in a 24hr Donut Store for 24hrs for example) and then attempt to write about it. It never came out the way we wanted it to, but it was fun and captured that moment in our lives.
Anyway, this is your opportunity to get together with your friends and create something. It can be about anything. Doesn't matter: coffee, hiking, bike riding, dogs, records etc. Just as long as it's you. The grand prize is 5 VIP Passes to FYF Fest and a $500 Gift Certificate to Origami Vinyl. Three runner ups will receive a 4 Pack of Weekend Passes to FYF. All details about the FYF Fanzine Contest can be found here. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

JAMES BLUNT SET TO RELEASE HIS FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM

AWARD WINNING MULTI-PLATINUM
SINGER AND SONGWRITER
JAMES BLUNT SET TO RELEASE HIS FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM MOON LANDING NOVEMBER 5, 2013 ON ATLANTIC RECORDS
FIRST SINGLE “BONFIRE HEART” OUT TODAY
[image error]
Multiple Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter James Blunt will release his fourth studio album MOON LANDING in the U.S. on November 5th. The highly anticipated new album was produced by Tom Rothrock (Beck, Moby, Foo Fighters), who worked with James on his multi-platinum selling debut BACK TO BEDLAM.  MOON LANDING also features production from Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, Martha Wainwright, Jason Mraz).  The album’s anthemic first single, “Bonfire Heart,” which was released today was co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder and can be heard here:http://youtu.be/rZB5LnNC-e0
“This is a much more personal album, and also quite back to basics,” commented Blunt. “It’s about me and Tom, the producer, finding where the story all started and where we are now.  It’s an album about dreams, longing, first love.”  About looking in the mirror and seeing the boy you were, the man you are – and learning to be comfortable with that, flaws and all. About getting back to basics and rediscovering the power of music to communicate emotion directly and honestly, without too much polish or complication.Since BACK TO BEDLAM was released in 2004, James has had four number one singles and won countless awards including two BRITs, two Ivor Novello Awards, 5 Grammy nominations and a host of MTV awards. He has sold nearly 17 million albums and 20 million singles worldwide and toured around the globe several times over.

RJD2 Shares "Her Majesty's Socialist Request"

RJD2 ANNOUNCES & SHARES "HER MAJESTY'S SOCIALIST REQUEST,"FIRST SINGLE OFF MORE IS THAN ISN'T, OUT OCTOBER 8TH ON RJ'S ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS  It is increasingly rare for artists in the sphere of hip-hop and electronic music to maintain a presence 15 years into a recording career, a feat even more impressive considering RJD2 (aka RJ Krohn) has only released music via independent labels. More Is Than Isn't , RJD2's 5th full-length LP (and 2nd on his own label, RJ's Electronic Connections), is truly a culmination of RJ's 15 years as both a producer and composer. It sees RJ incorporating new production techniques and approaches while still keeping an eye on the basic aesthetic that has always driven him: soulful, melodic, beat-oriented music. Conceptually, the album is tied together by three instrumental pieces that are different explorations of the same harmonic theme. It captures a dynamic range not seen before on an RJD2 album, ranging from subdued jazz-tinged pieces to bombastic club music, and a lot of funk in between. Evident through debut single, "Her Majesty's Socialist Request," the ethereal, beat-driven vibes of his debut album also make appearances now and again, with textural usage of gritty drum breaks, lush analog synths and his ever-distinctive use of the MPC sampler.
"Her Majesty's Socialist Request" is available via iTunes now . More Is Than Isn't follows on October 8th.

No Age show on Aug 16 at the Hammer Museum

NO AGE @ THE HAMMER
Post-able MP3: An ImpressionPost-able MP3:  C'mon StimmungArtist Page on Subpop.com (w/ Artists Photo & Bio): http://www.subpop.com/artists/no_age

About No Age:
With An Object, their fourth full-length album, No Age has forgone the straight and narrow route, landing in a strange and unexpected place, feet planted in fresh, fertile soil. This new LP finds drummer/vocalist Dean Spunt exploding from behind his kit, landing percussive blows with amplified contact mics, 4-string bass guitars, and prepared speakers, as well as traditional forms of lumber and metal. Meanwhile, guitarist Randy Randall corrals his previously lush, spastic, sprawling arrangements into taught, refined, rats' nests. Lyrically Spunt challenges space, fracturing ideological forms and complacency, creating a striking new perspective that reveals thematic preoccupations with structural ruptures and temporal limits.
As the title An Object suggests, these eleven tracks are meant to be grasped, not simply heard. Whether in the fine grit of Randall’s sandpaper guitar scrapes on "Defector/ed," or Spunt's percussive stomp and crack on "Circling with Dizzy" and "An Impression," these are songs that pivot on the sheer materiality of music-making, incorporating the process every step of the way.
Still, this is hardly a work of avant garde noise music. These songs are hummable, political, recognizably rooted in underground rock, and informed by an understanding of sound as a material to be shaped, handled, and worked over. It is an aesthetic in which the relationships between guitar, percussion, and vocals—as well as those between rhythm and melody—become relationships between things.
These relationships are built into An Object at every level. In collaboration with friend and Grammy-nominated designer Brian Roettinger (5 E.P.'s, NounsLosing FeelingEverything In Between), the band prepared and assembled the physical packaging of An Object, including jackets, inserts, and labels, fusing the roles of manufacturer, artist, and musician into one. It is this sense of the total work of art that underlines An Object as the culmination of two years of touring, writing, and performing, finding No Age moving into new terrain at the height of their powers.
An Object was recorded by longtime No Age collaborator Facundo Bermudez and No Age at Gaucho's Electronics in Los Angeles.
