Julianna Barwick's Will is Out Worldwide Today

Julianna Barwick's Will is Out Worldwide Today

"To listen to the music of Julianna Barwick is to be swept away; to be transported someplace sacred. It's the sound of yearning, searching and escape." – NPR Music

"The consistent loveliness of [Barwick's] approach remains, and both longtime fans and newcomers should be glad to know that's also true of...Barwick's upcoming, self-produced Will." – Pitchfork

"Writing about just one Julianna Barwick track feels like reviewing only one star in the constellation." – SPIN

Today marks the release of a truly special record from Julianna Barwick, namely her third full-length,  Will . Conceived and self-produced over the past year in a variety of locations, Will is a travelogue of sorts – weaving together swaths of inspiration from a desolate house in upstate New York to the Moog Factory in Asheville, North Carolina to Lisbon, Portugal.

An electric current runs throughout the record, sharp and soft textures colliding to cathartic results. Will is a late afternoon thunderstorm – looming and restorative all at once. Featuring contributions from Thomas Arsenault (Mas Ysa), Dutch cellist Maarten Vos and percussionist, Jamie Ingalls(Chairlift, Tanlines, Beverly), Will is largely a product of ups and downs, a reflection of a life lived somewhere in between transience and standing still.

Barwick will tour in support of Will starting this week in Los Angeles. She's added a new date at Bowery Ballroom in NYC on June 25th. Mas Ysa will support. Full list of dates below.

"Over the last few years, Nashville's Moon Taxi have worked their way up from Bonnaroo buzz-band to something approaching Kings of Leon country, playing a pleasingly cross-bred rock - a little indie, a little proggy, kinda poppy." - Rolling Stone"…spacious rock, that's begging to fill huge venues." - MagnetMagazine.com

""Moon Taxi evolves from 'college project' to rock stars." - The Tennessean
"Goodbye jam band, hello Cleveland! Between the arena pop of Maroon 5 and
ooh/ahh/stomp of the Lumineers, the third effort from Moon Taxi touches on prog with heavily processed guitar and ska beats." - Austin Chronicle
"Daybreaker, is the portrait of a band that's moving forward by leaps and bounds." - Pop Matters

MATT COSTA releases final EP in series, ANCHOR & THE ALBATROSS

MATT COSTA RELEASES
ANCHOR & THE ALBATROSS  EP

Final Release in 5-EP Series
(May 6, 2016) – Southern California-based singer/songwriter MATT COSTA will release his latest EP  ANCHOR & THE ALBATROSS  on May 6, 2016. The four-song EP is thefinal release in a series of five different EP’s that Costa wrote, recorded, and self-released, each unique in style, approach, and concept.

“ “Anchor & The Albatross” is one of my favorite story songs I’ve written,” commented Costa. “It's a fairy tale about things that have moved away or passed through our lives and are buried deep in the unconscious.”

I was able to release and share the music that was closet to me in real time,” said Costa about the series. “Each release was a bridge to the next phase of my art.”

The five song  Eucalyptus  EP kicked off the series last February and showcases intricate fingerpicking on the mostly acoustic tunes. The garage-rock bedroom recordings on the  Cat Mosta  EP came next in July, while the more sophisticated compositions on November’s  Neon Brain  were the first to be recorded in a studio instead of Costa’s Laguna Beach, California home. The fourth EP,  Live in London , was released in January and featured three previously unreleased songs recorded live on tour.

I can’t pick a favorite from the series, but ‘Smeared Pointillist Painting’ and ‘Bee Keeper Becomes Eucalyptus’ are in the style that made me fall in love with acoustic guitar. Twelve string guitars and organ solos complete a love hate relationship with capitalism on ‘Green Devil.’ And ‘Neon Brain’ being the centerpiece was the moment of transcendence.”

Costa recently wrote and recorded the score to the award-winning new documentary,Orange Sunshine, a portrait of the sixties revolutionary group, Brotherhood of Eternal Love, which became the largest suppliers of LSD during the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Colored Glass Radio, the hour-long radio show hosted by Costa on KX 93.5, continues and is available streaming on Soundcloud or by download through iTunes.

Fruit Bats are heading off on a US tour starting today,  May 5, in   Northampton, MA. They are playing in  Brooklyn, NY on   May 12 at  Rough Trade (Sold Out) and in  Los Angeles on  May 20 at the  Roxy. The tour concludes on  June 5th at Do Division Festival in  Chicago. Fruit Bats are also confirmed for several festivals this summer including returns to  Pickathon in  Portland, Oregon and Huichica Music Festival in  Sonoma, California, also including debut appearances at  Newport Folk Festival and   Nelsonville Music Festival. All the tour dates are listed below.
Absolute Loser  is the the follow up to 2011's  Tripper and it represents a triumphant return to name, form, and self. Despite implications, its title refers to the furthest depths of loss itself, rather than the state of those who have lost something. It's the most honest, most confessional album of  Fruit Bats' career. The album was recorded by Thom Monahan who has a long relationship with Johnson.
"If you've loved the band, as so many already have, you'll love this, and if you haven't yet heard Fruit Bats, then Absolute Loser is a terrific place to start." - KEXP
"With its rolling guitar line and ambient backdrop, the song recalls fellow Chicago folkies Califone (with whom Johnson played for a stint), while Johnson's bright vocal suggests sunnier times ahead." - FLOOD
"The red dust clings heavier on this track than some of their past records, a twang in Eric D. Johnson's vocals and a sunbaked warmth to the piano and acoustic guitar." - Consequence of Sound
"It's the opening song to a stunning record, one that won't leave your head (or your headphones) any time soon. Fruit Bats is back, and that's a very good thing." -OPBMusic

Fear of Men share "Sane" and announce US tour, new album out 6/3 via Kanine Records

FEAR OF MEN SHARE "SANE"
ANNOUNCE FULL US SUMMER TOUR
NEW ALBUM, FALL FOREVER, OUT 6/3 VIA KANINE RECORDS
Photo Credit: Rosie Carr and Daniel Falvey
LISTEN TO "SANE"

Brighton, UK's Fear of Men have shared "Sane," the latest single from the band's upcoming album,
Fall Forever.   SPIN  who premiered the track today are calling it a "cinematic ballad, swelling with synth that may be simulated, but emotion that is undeniably real."  Fall Forever is available for pre-order now, and out June 3rd on Kanine Records.
Fear of Men spoke to SPIN about the track, singer Jessica Weiss told them "Sane" is "partly me watching myself going mad, partly declaring myself separate from the madness a relationship can drag you into," while guitarist Daniel Falvey says "on this album we made a greater use of technology to re-imagine the sounds we could make with our instruments - most of what sounds like keyboards and synthesizers on "Sane" is actually guitar, so the song can be cold and controlled in the verses but have bursts of chaos and be very dynamic live. It's our favourite song to play at the moment."
The band has also announced a full US tour in the summer. All dates below.
