(January 23rd, 2025) - Today, Southern-bred multidisciplinary artist Mereba shares new single and music video for “Phone Me” ahead of her forthcoming album The Breeze Grew a Fire due Feb 14th via Secretly Canadian. The single highlights Mereba’s smooth vocals and clever lyrical prose. Mereba shares about the song, “This song is a sisterhood / friendship anthem dedicated to those classic bestie friendships that may have changed over the years, but are still cherished deeply. The experiences we shared helped us shape our journeys and have confidence in our destinies. I just wanted a fun, joyful song celebrating my chosen sisters and brothers.”
The new song follows her previous single “Counterfeit” and the announcement of the Breeze Grew a Fire Spring 2025 North American Tour. Kicking off in April 2025, the 15-date tour will see stops in Sacramento, Chicago, New York and wrap up in Los Angeles. Grab tickets at www.merebamusic.com/tour.
Following the release of her debut album The Jungle Is the Only Way Out, Mereba welcomed the birth of her son in 2021. Naturally, the assumption of her role as mother and nurturer shifted her self-perception and as a result, the methods and drive behind her creative output. Through this approach, her forthcoming album, The Breeze Grew a Fire, draws from new lived experiences and early influences and in tapping into her maternal instinct, Mereba rediscovers space for her truest self. Speaking on the early stages of The Breeze Grew a Fire, she shares, “For this [album], it went back to me being on my own for the creation of a lot of the songs, and it was really important for me at this time of life because I was a little disconnected from the world, and from who I was. So I was trying to find my way back to myself first. What do I like? What do I want to hear? What do I want to say to people now?”
Mereba’s entry into songwriting began through folk music. Mereba shares, “I learned guitar from a folk guitar teacher as a young teen in North Carolina and that really shaped how I write songs to this day, focusing on simple stories of everyday life.” The diverse Atlanta music scene continued to shape Mereba’s artistry growing up. Mereba notes, “Coming up in the ripe underground music scene in Atlanta as an indie musician influenced my journey and sound so much. I was playing every kind of show, folk shows, reggae shows, rap shows, R&B shows. It was there where I honed my skills as a performer and also a rapper and R&B singer, branching out from the super folk-centric space. I formed relationships with Spillage Village, the rap collective I'm still a part of with other members JID, Earthgang, 6lack, and others. We all came up together in a really organic and beautiful way, going from playing shows for 30 people to playing shows for thousands together.” The development of Breeze was anchored by experiences and memories from Atlanta to L.A., Addis Ababa to Greensboro, an intention that speaks to the album’s fluid nature. To aid in this creation, Mereba tapped her longtime production collaborator Sam Hoffman to co-assemble the album’s rich production, which parallels its folklore-like warmth.
Mereba’s debut album The Jungle Is the Only Way Out and follow up AZEB EP were both released to critical acclaim and sparked a global cult following with lead singles performed on Tiny Desk, COLORS and at the BET Awards. During the tail end of making her debut album Mereba was mentored by Stevie Wonder and he encouraged her to take control of her music as her own producer. Mereba was also featured on Dreamville Records Grammy-nominated album Revenge of the Dreamers III and four of Mereba’s songs have been featured on HBO’s hit series Insecure.

The digital / streaming version will include 8 bonus tracks and the vinyl will be a special yellow and black splatter edition via Slumberland Records. "Callers" (demo) is one of these bonus tracks, recorded in the time period around the album. At the Teragram show, the band will be selling a limited number of copies of a new lathe-cut 7" single w/ two Rose Main-era songs that are previously unreleased. All of the proceeds from this single will go to LA fire relief, specifically to the CA Community Foundation.
***
Peel Dream Magazine have staked out a very specific spot in the indie music landscape with the fuzzy space age pop of recent albums Rose Main Reading Room and Pad, but the story starts with the motorik lo-fi psychedelia of 2018's Modern Meta Physic. Redolent of early Stereolab, Broadcast, or Spacemen 3, songs like "Qi Velocity" and "Deetjen's" percolate and hum, buzzing with mood and melody. Now we're happy to revisit the album with this expanded deluxe edition that adds 8 new songs -- 2 from the Modern Meta Physic sessions and 6 demos from the very active period of recording and conceptualizing that led up to the album.
Joseph Stevens of Peel Dream adds further context:
"These eight previously unreleased B-sides and demos are all home recordings from the 2016-2017 timeframe that I wrote what would become the first Peel Dream Magazine record, 2018’s Modern Meta Physic. Six of them are from what was supposed to be an earlier release which I abandoned, called Saturn Patterns. I started recording that batch of songs under a different band name - Cherry Coals - with a guy named Shaun Durkan (Crushed, Weekend, Tamaryn), who I met when our previous bands played a show together at a DIY venue in Bushwick called Palisades. Shawn was producing this heavier, gothic stuff I was doing at the time, which eventually stalled out and gave way to an almost polar opposite, stripped-down set of songs I wanted to record instead.
My taste was shifting heavily toward krautrock, droney 90s indie, and 60s stuff like the Velvet Underground and Nick Drake, which all melded into what I would characterize as the early Peel Dream Magazine sound. I started using my voice in a way that felt more natural to me and gravitated toward clean guitars and simple organ drones to create songs that didn’t “move” or develop like my previous ones did. I tried to stretch simple ideas into full songs without forcing myself to write proper endings, bridges, or any other ornamental flourishes I’d grown accustomed to. While the idea isn’t really that novel in the grand scheme of things, it was a major deal to me at the time. When I listen back to these songs, I hear all kinds of mistakes and half-cooked ideas, but I’m teleported to a special period where my life in New York really buzzed with possibility and wonder. Two songs - "Kaaterskill Trailhead" and "Modern Metaphysics" - are plucked directly from the month or two that I wrote and recorded Modern Meta Physic, and were cut only so that we could get the run-time of that record down. These really are “first waffles.” Sharing old stuff like that can be really weird and anxiety-producing, but it’s also really cathartic. I also think this is a fun way to put a spotlight on that album again, because people seem to be discovering it now more than ever, and it’s really cool to see that it resonates with people."

Snapped Ankles announce new album 'Hard Times Furious Dancing' released 28th March 2025

Snapped Ankles have given up trying to make sense of it all. The forest only offers so much protection. Feeding on a diet of fractured narratives, meme culture, viral moments and the very worst of human impulses weighs heavy. The woodwose hold up a mirror to the absurdity of modern life once again. The only sane response is to dance. Make your way to the clearing, gather around the megalith of speakers, drum machines, amps and synthesisers and dance like there’s no tomorrow.
Watch the video for first single ‘Raoul’ (out today) below - a feverish conversation about geopolitics between unreliable narrators over buzzing synths and howling dogs.
Hard Times Furious Dancing will be released on CD and digital, and in four vinyl formats including black vinyl, a limited edition indies only ‘Don Quixote’s Green’ vinyl edition, and a Bandcamp only ‘Weird & Eerie’ luminous vinyl edition of 800. There is also a Dinked Edition of 700 on ‘Procession of the Possessed’ pink vinyl, which also includes an ‘Armchair Protest Banner’ (aka a tea towel) and a ‘Hard Times Preparation Manual’ booklet.
Press Release | High Res Artwork | Press Photo

Hard Times Furious Dancing is an invitation to all those lost in the unrelenting noise of the present, to leave it all behind and come together in the forest. Driven by the primitive thrust of their single-oscillator ‘log’ synths, high and low culture collide in a surreal, free flowing narrative - but the rhythm is universal. This is easily the closest Snapped Ankles have come to capturing their rapturous live energy in the studio. It’s everything you’ve come to know and love from a Snapped Ankles album, amped all the way up until the ground begins to shake.
The first single, ‘Raoul’, is a feverish conversation about geopolitics between unreliable narrators over buzzing synths and howling dogs. The protagonists? Raoul Duke and Don Quixote of course - the original and best where unreliable narrators are concerned. ‘Pay The Rent’ takes a sideways look at how the global cost of living crisis is putting a squeeze on the arts – or “Dancing at the misery of the situation,” as frontman Austin puts it. Which leads neatly on to ‘Dancing In Transit’ – a true tale of bumping into ballroom dancers while stuck in post-Brexit Eurotunnel customs purgatory and “getting an impromptu tango class in the middle of the mayhem”. Elsewhere there are odes to various pioneers of arthouse cinema, Neue Deutsche Welle and krautrock, and defecating nativity figurines. Standard Snapped Ankles’ fare.
The sound of Hard Times Furious Dancing evolved at Snapped Ankles’ South London ‘Forest Rayve’ club nights in 2024 in response to that age-old primal urge to bring people together and make them move. It’s the first time the woodwose have road tested new material to this extent before committing it to tape since debut album Come Play The Trees, and in doing so have harnessed that feral energy once again. This surreal human/woodwose connection is the very best release from an algorithm that knows you better than you know yourself. Dance it all loose.
Snapped Ankles embark on their biggest tour to date, with a run of over thirty shows in the UK and Europe this spring, including a night at Fabric in London on May 15th. Support for the March UK leg comes courtesy of The Sick Man Of Europe.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Announce New Album 'Death Hilarious' out April 4 + Release Official Video for New Single "Stitches"
Official Video for New Single “Stitches” Out Now

January 22, 2025: Today, the Newcastle, UK-based band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs announced their fifth studio album Death Hilarious will be released on April 4 via Missing Piece Records in North America and Rocket Recordings (rest of world). Along with the announcement, the band released the new single “Stitches” along with a bizarre and grotesque animated video directed by Ben Faircloth which depicts the band being mutated and mutilated by hideous hybrid fauna from across multiple dimensions of nightmares.
Watch the official video for “Stitches” via YouTube.
Pre-order/pre-save Death Hilarious.
About the new single, frontman Matt Baty explains, “I’m aware our band sits in a world largely commandeered by bravado, confidence and machoism, but ‘Stitches’ is an expression of vulnerability, paradoxical emotions and those so familiar pangs of anxiety I wrestle with while butting heads with societal expectations and personal struggles.”
“Stitches” follows the release of “five-plus-minute crusher” (Consequence) “Detroit” that was released in November. The song was praised by BrooklynVegan, Glide Magazine, Metal Injection, Metal Sucks, New Noise Magazine, Stereogum, Vanyaland and Consequence who named it their “Heavy Song of the Week.”
Whereas 2023’s Land Of Sleeper was conceived as an immersive headphones experience, Pigs strove for something more directly hostile on Death Hilarious. “We wanted it to be a slap in the face,” grins producer and guitarist Sam Grant. That objective came, in part, from playing so many gigs over the last couple of years. The band felt well-oiled and ripe to give listeners at home the kind of pummelling their audience receives. The result is a diversely punishing record that shape shifts through Sabbathian doom, grotesquely minimalist noise rock and cyclical post-metal fortissimos.
The album’s lyrics emerged from a bout of anxiety which derailed Matt Baty’s self-confidence to the extent that he wondered whether he’d be able to write any lyrics again. With his mind telling him he’d lost it and no longer had anything to say, the solution was to embrace the disquiet. “After a while I realised this is my muse,” recalls Baty.“ I decided to give all these thoughts an avenue to release themselves, in the hope of exorcising them.”
Late last year, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs released a Record Store Day exclusive vinyl release of their explosive KEXP session, which recently surpassed one million views on YouTube. Death Hilarious follows their breakthrough fourth studio album Land of Sleeper which was acclaimed by Pitchfork, Bandcamp Daily, Consequence of Sound, The Quietus, DIY Magazine, AllMusic and many more. In their 4 star review, The Guardian proclaimed, “their Black Sabbath-esque doom riffs make them accessible to anyone who has overlooked the past few decades worth of hard rock history… it’s undeniable that the band’s fourth album Land of Sleeper will keep listeners entrenched in their heady cosmos.”

“OH MY ACTUAL DAYS” HERE
ON TOUR IN THE US, UK AND EU THIS SPRING

Today, Alabaster DePlume — the acclaimed London-based saxophonist, singer, songwriter, activist, orator, and poet-philosopher — announces A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole, a daring new album out March 7 on International Anthem. DePlume shares eleven songs of agency and survival and presence; of confronting life’s pains rather than trying to avoid them; of banishing escapism. It’s his first major work following 2022’s GOLD and 2020's To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol 1. It also directly follows his EP Cremisan: Prologue To A Blade (recorded in Palestine in summer 2024) and his poetry book Looking for my value: Prologue to a blade, both of which were released in late 2024 as precursors to this album.
Across A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole, DePlume’s reflections on healing, dignity, and struggle are communicated through a stirring assemblage of disparate musics: ghostly and ancient folk melodies, groove-anchored maelstroms of swirling folk-jazz, elegant string arrangements that strike a midpoint between Ravel and Gainsbourg (courtesy of Macie Stewart), disembodied voices reconfiguring into the shape of a post-modern Greek chorus, noir atmosphere, and allegoric, troubadouric song. Throughout, Alabaster’s intimate, confessional croon (a la Donovan or Devendra Banhart) and vibrato-laced tenor saxophone playing (a la Getatchew Mekurya) convey, with a startling humanistic touch, everything from dejected fragility to resolute strength.
Pre-order / Pre-save A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole
About the album’s title, DePlume writes: “A blade, because a blade is whole, it has forgiven itself, and because it will take a small piece of our opposite, for us to be complete. A blade has marked out these former selves on my hand, a blade made the lines that divine us and the blade is whole. A blade. While I forgive myself, and heal, and lead us in healing. We can only forgive each other once we forgive ourselves. We can only heal each other while we heal ourselves.”
In the video for the rousing and cinematic lead track “Oh My Actual Days” — directed by artist Rebecca Salvadori, who also shot the album cover — DePlume, bathed in blue light, is pensive as he recounts past self-conceptions and strives towards internal acceptance and, ultimately, healing. About the instrumental song, whose title “Oh My Actual Days” refers to a London colloquialism that can be translated into American English as “oh my f-ing god,” DePlume says: “We can, if we choose, read this phrase as a call to the divinity of the moment we are in. Wherever we are, whatever is happening, it is our own life – a life that is made up of the time (the days – the actual days) that we spend. And we call to this – the only real thing that we have. Our time. Whatever we are experiencing it belongs to us, it is the ‘actual’ moment we are in. And it is divine. This is the introduction to the album.”
Watch the video “Oh My Actual Days” here
.
As with all of DePlume’s work, A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole is driven by intention. In this case, a desire to interrogate the concept of healing. As DePlume shared with music writer Liz Pelly, who wrote an essay to accompany the album as digital liner notes: “When I meet people who love my work I ask them, ‘what do people need?’ Many of them were answering ‘healing’, so I worked on that, first of all by healing myself. I found that it was an activity I could choose, and that it had a lot to do with my ownership of myself, dignity and independence. Instead of waiting for healing to ‘happen to me’ I could heal myself and own myself. That is what this album is.”
Read Liz Pelly’s essay on the album here.
This self-reflection and personal evaluation led DePlume to author his poetry book, Looking for my value: prologue to a blade. The seventy pages of verse (much of which were repurposed as lyrics throughout A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole) ponder the pursuit for strength of self within a community, alongside meditations on the paradox of the blade.
DePlume will be touring the United States, the UK, and Europe in support of A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole throughout the spring — see full dates below, more information here. US dates will feature multi-instrumentalist Shazad Ismaily (“one of music’s most coveted collaborators,” according to The New York Times) plus more musicians TBA, with saxophonist/composer Patrick Shiroishi doing supporting opening sets at every show. DePlume’s band for the UK/EU tour will feature percussionist Julian Sartorius, drummer Seb Rochford, bassist Ruth Goller, and Mikey Kenney on strings. More guests to be announced.

MAD COOL 2025 REVEALS LINE UP ADDITIONS
DAILY SCHEDULE REVEALED
Announcing an exclusive Brunch! Electronik x Mad Cool day which will take place on Sunday, July 13th 2025

Mad Cool Festival 2025 shares new additions to this year's lineup and announce the daily schedule. New names include: Nine Inch Nails, Bad Nerves, Geordie Greep, Chloé Caillet and Kingfishr. This year also marks the debut of Brunch! Electronik x Mad Cool, an exclusive day dedicated to showcasing the best of electronic music at the festival.
Nine Inch Nails, fronted by Trent Reznor, will headline Mad Cool 2025 on Friday 11th July, marking their highly anticipated return following their acclaimed performance in 2018. Widely regarded as pioneers of 90s industrial rock, Nine Inch Nails continues to be a groundbreaking force with a profound influence on contemporary culture. Their impact extends beyond music, encompassing significant contributions to film, music production, and collaborations with other artists.
The latest wave of announcements is completed by the bold punk sound of the British band Bad Nerves, the avant-garde and genre-defying style of Geordie Greep, former frontman of Black Midi, the eclectic set by New York’s Chloé Caillet, one of today’s most in-demand DJs, and the alternative folk of the Irish band Kingfishr.
This year’s edition of Mad Cool Festival will kick off on Thursday 10th July, featuring major acts such as Kings of Leon, Gracie Abrams, Iggy Pop, Weezer and more. Friday 11th July will be headlined by Nine Inch Nails, joined by Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette and Benson Boone. On Saturday 12th July, the spotlight will be on Olivia Rodrigo, Justice, Arde Bogotá and Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Additionally, winners of the ‘Mad Cool Talent by Vibra Mahou’ and ‘Mad Cool DJ Talent by Vibra Mahou’ initiatives will join the lineup, providing emerging bands and DJs with the chance to perform on a globally recognized stage.
For the first time, Brunch! Electronik will join Mad Cool Festival to host a special day dedicated to electronic music on Sunday 13th July. Renowned as a national benchmark in club music, Brunch! Electronik is celebrated for its inclusive ethos and for showcasing some of the most prominent international DJs. Its participation enhances the festival's lineup, providing a unique space for electronic music enthusiasts.
Tickets for Brunch! Electronik x Mad Cool will be sold separately and will be available at madcooltickets.com starting Monday 27th January.
Mad Cool Festival 2025 will take place on 10th, 11th, and 12th July at the Iberdrola Music venue in Villaverde, south of Madrid. This space seamlessly combines leisure, culture, and innovation, setting an example of commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. Spanning over 185,000 square metres, it is designed to serve as a model of responsible management, capable of hosting a wide variety of events, with the goal of becoming a key cultural and social hub in southern Madrid.
The full daily lineup of performances is available on the official Mad Cool Festival website.

Following a beautiful performance of ‘Horses’ on Kelly Clarkson, Australian singer and songwriter Mallrat is announcing a North American tour, which will see her visiting over twenty cities beginning this April.
Her new album releasing on February 14th, Light hit my face like a straight right , is born from a world of magical realism in Australian suburbia. With an ounce of influence from her time growing up in Brisbane, Mallrat consistently seeks out (real or imaginary) magic in the otherwise ugly and everyday, as a means to understand the people and world around her. Twelve songs bound with expressive breaks, heartfelt moments, and dance floor ready beats, primed with earlier singles Pavement, 'Horses', 'Ray of Light' and 'Hocus Pocus', the record’s sum isn’t abstract or tied to didactic stories, but instead, presented as its own inherent being – the music Mallratloves making most captures a feeling or time that words alone don’t do justice.
The tour kicks off April 29 in Dallas and includes dates in Austin, Atlanta, New York, Washington DC, Boston, Salt Lake City, Denver, and more, before concluding on June 5 in Los Angeles. Tickets will be on sale starting Friday January 24th @ 10amET. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit: lilmallrat.com
