THE STREETS SHARE OFFICIAL VIDEO FORNONE OF US ARE GETTING OUT OF THIS LIFE ALIVE FEAT. IDLES THE TITLE TRACK FROM NEW MIXTAPE, OUT NOW ONE OFF CLUB SHOW TO BE LIVE STREAMED FROM EARTH IN HACKNEY, LONDON THIS THURSDAY, AUGUST 6
Download Album Art HEREMike Skinner as The Streets has shared the official video for his mixtape title track None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive. The track features Idles and the video was directed by Rollo Jackson. It features both Mike and Idles frontman Joe Talbot - watch it in full here:
The critically acclaimed mixtape, out now on Island Records, charted at Number 2 in the UK Official Album Charts and features the singles “Call My Phone Thinking I'm Doing Nothing Better (ft. Tame Impala)”, “I Wish You Loved You As Much As You Love Him (ft. Donae'O & Greentea Peng)” and “Falling Down (ft. Hak Baker).” This Thursday August 6, The Streets will be playing an exclusive club performance, to be livestreamed to the world from EartH Hackney. A pay-per-view livestream event, this is likely to be the only time you will ever be able to watch Mike Skinner and his band perform in a club setting this small, and is the first time they've played a venue of this size since the summer of 2006. Tickets are on sale via this link. Album and merchandise bundles are also available, as well as an optional charity donation option to Mike’s chosen charity Show Racism the Red Card. Tickets are available in Euros, USD, AUD, all via Ticketmaster. The show will be streamed globally at 4pm EST / 9pm GMT.
PRAISE FOR THE MIXTAPE: "a simple beat of skittering percussion and a sweet piano loop, but steadily blossoms into something bigger, filled with steely guitar, synths, and a touch of orchestral strings." Rolling Stone on "Falling Down" “disjointed, green screen-assisted trek around the neighborhood...the aesthetic bears a distinctly choppy and collage-like feel. Adding to the immediacy of the clip, the Streets peppers the video with references to recent Black Lives Matter protests and various internet memes.” Rolling Stone on “I Wish You Loved You As Much As You Love Him” “‘Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better’ showcases Mike Skinner’s skilled wordplay." - Paste Magazine on “Call My Phone Thinking I'm Doing Nothing Better” ft. Tame Impala "Kevin Parker and The Streets’ Mike Skinner are getting through the isolation by calling loved ones. With washed-out synths and poignant backbeat, Parker sings of the anxiety that can be attached to facing a phone call." - UPROXX on “Call My Phone Thinking I'm Doing Nothing Better” ft. Tame Impala "the track featuring Donae’o and Greentea Peng was meant for groovy dance parties everywhere." Consequence of Sound on “I Wish You Loved You As Much As You Love Him” "sort of laidback, but purposeful rapping fans came to love over the past several decades." Magnetic on "Falling Down" "(a) straight forward hip hop, with its keep it real demeanor to brush off the haters, that breathes nostalgia of the “golden era” of hip hop yesteryear." MXDWN on "Falling Down" Mojo (4*) "A stellar record" - DIY (5*) "Mike Skinner makes glorious return" - Q (4*) "[the mixtape] isn't just a testament to Mike Skinner's intriguing evolution but also proof of his keen eye for curation" - NME (4*) "the guest list of None of Us Are Getting Out of This Life Alive is testament to Skinner's impact" - The Guardian (Album of the Week) “None of Us Are Getting Out of This Life Alive's beats, mostly self-produced... are as sharp as ever and manage to sound like classic Streets tracks without coming across as a throwback.” Exclaim!
None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive was recorded between work on the accompanying film to The Streets new album, it is the unpredictable sonic continuation of those parties. Taking in UK Funky and twilight zone UK rap, and with guest spots ranging from Grammy nominated psychedelia sovereign Tame Impala to cult south London rapper Jesse James Solomon, as well as 2019's key-fiend-friendly drum’n’bass collab with Chris Lorenzo, None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive is the most eclectic and highly collaborative collection of songs from The Streets yet. Or as Mike puts it with characteristic distinction: "it’s really just a rap duets album." The inclusion of, say, Mercury Prize nominated punk group Idles (who perform what Mike describes as a sea-shanty tinged track inspired by an overnight ferry to Dover) and teenage wünderkind Jimothy Lacoste help ground things firmly in the here and now. But there are familiar faces of the past too. Birmingham legend, Dapz On The Map, pops up on merky rap track 'Phone Is Always In My Hand'. While Rob Harvey, previously of The Music and Skinner collaboration The D.O.T, tunes into pensieve penultimate track 'Conspiracy Theory Freestyle'. Full track listing and featured artists detailed below:

Manu Grace - "Two Weeks" Official Video
Manu Grace will release No Room for Error, her sophomore EP available October 16 via Platoon. With a bold unlocking of freedom and femininity, the seven songs on the EP break new ground for the purveyor of “sensitive pop” -- unguarded and groovy, appealing to both heart and feet alike. The South African songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist also just released the EP’s lead single “Two Weeks” which premiered today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show as a "World First" record. The song is the musical manifestation of an unanticipated romance in Tuscany, encompassing the colors, sounds, smells and sensations of a fun-yet-fleeting summer. Hear the gorgeous and sunny track here: https://platoon.lnk.to/twoweeks.
“Two Weeks” comes with an intimate, DIY visual from Manu, filmed while in shutdown with her family in South Africa. “Playing into the limitations of lockdown, I head out on foot, armed with a tripod and VHS camera,” notes Manu. “I filmed myself in the spaces that have played such a crucial role in keeping my head on in this bizarre time. I wanted to just keep it simple and natural, using only what I had immediately at hand - and, to be perfectly honest, I set myself the challenge simply to see if I could pull it off.” Watch the video for “Two Weeks” here: https://youtu.be/GwKrXMxFgdM.

Raised in a creative family, and sheltered from the distractions of technological advancements, Manu grew up with plenty of room for her imagination to thrive. At 15, she wrote her first full composition the day her baby brother came home from the hospital and joined the band The Aztec Sapphire during her final high school exams. She notes, “I learned so much about my craft from that experience -- I learned about arrangement, recording, and gear in general. Aztec quite literally altered my world.”
Manu went on to do a stint at the University of Cape Town Music School. During this time, she connected with Ross Dorkin and Robin Brink of Beatenberg who have gone on to produce both her new EP and June, her 2019 debut EP which saw Manu named Apple Music South Africa’s ‘Favourite New Artist’ and nominated for “Best Alternative Music Album” and “Female Artist of the Year” by the SAMAs (South African Music Awards).
Determined to keep the momentum going, she worked her way from Italy to London to Berlin doing odd jobs along the way, reveling in the obscurity travel brought her and creating music she had long dreamt up.
No Room for Error reflects Manu’s inner and outer world over the course of an eventful couple of months of love, loss and visa runs. It trails her travels chronologically and the project reads like a story. The EP is unabashed about desire; vulnerable and fierce. “I approached the process with a sense of freedom and fearlessness -- no idea was ever too wild, and I really love working like that.”

KATE BOLLINGER Shares New Song + Video via The FADER
KATE BOLLINGER
SHARES VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE“FEEL LIKE DOING NOTHING” VIA THE FADER
A WORD BECOMES A SOUND EP OUT 8/21
Photo Credit: Jonathan Roensch (download hi-res)
“ Kate Bollinger is an architect of chill vibes. Her soulful whisper recalls Feist, Maggie Rogers or maybe just a lo-fi Norah Jones.” - The New York Times
“Kate Bollinger writes smart, melodic indie pop music. It makes for easy listening, but there's real insight in her lyrics. Dig deeper and you'll discover a thoughtful songwriter coming into her own.” - NPR Music
“Pillowy and alluring” - Stereogum
Charlottesville, VA-based musician Kate Bollinger has shared a video for “Feel Like Doing Nothing,” the latest single from her forthcoming EP, A word becomes a sound. The FADER, who premiered the video today, is calling it “A little closer to jazz-pop side of indie rock this time, the single is a quiet ode to procrastination — a little more anxious than its melodies suggest.”
Of the dream pop-inspired “Feel Like Doing Nothing,” Bollinger says “By now I know that I am happiest when I'm keeping myself as busy as possible, but with that I always seem to make the same mistake again and again, which is trying to do too many things and wearing myself down. This song was written at that point, it's meant to feel playful and like an abandonment of all responsibility, but it's also supposed to feel a little uneasy. It's a song about avoidance and escapism at its heart.”
A word becomes a sound, a breathtaking five-song collection that touches on pop, folk, jazz and beat-driven experimentation, is available for pre-order now and due August 21st via House Arrest.

For Kate Bollinger, knowing how to articulate exactly what she means would take a seemingly unattainable level of communicational prowess. Because of this, her nuanced songwriting gives listeners a framework within which they can project their own experiences. “I try to write in a way that leaves each song open to interpretation because I want people to hear their own relationships reflected back at them when they listen to my music,” she says.
The forthcoming A word becomes a sound is, in some ways, Bollinger’s first proper release. While she was happy with how her EP I Don’t Wanna Lose turned out, she says “everything was so new to me, so I didn't take things where they could have gone. Every song you hear is a live take and I was so excited to record the songs as I had written them, so there wasn't much in the way of production after the fact. When we recorded A word becomes a sound, I really pushed myself to actualize what I heard in my head.” Recording the EP was hard-fought; the COVID-19 crisis hit before the band was able to finish, so Bollinger and her collaborator John Trainum were forced to complete the project under unprecedented circumstances.
A word becomes a sound flits between sonic sensibilities, never once settling on a single sustained mood. The EP grounds itself in Bollinger’s nimble voice, which fits a torrent of emotion inside of it. “My music has a really soft center and when I write I am finding a balance between something delicate and the darker feelings surrounding it,” Bollinger says. “Many of my songs are about childhood, because I am lucky to have had a pretty idyllic one.”
But what happens when childhood ends and the anxieties of adulthood come to dominate a once-carefree mind? “My songs, and the sadness in them, comes from reflecting on an easier time.” And the end result makes for one of the most exciting introductions to a new artist you’ll hear all Summer.

Experimental psych jazz duo Spires That In The Sunset Rise announces new album, Psychic Oscillations & shares first track "Sax Solfa"
STREAM: "Sax Solfa" -

When you walk outside, in the light, and the sparks in your head define your map of the world, your relation to time and thoughts that lead and follow, full of light, discharging constantly. When you talk to others, an exchange of pleasantries, the flow of humanity, breath through a flute, bow on string, colors, sounds. How you never feel it all at once, the best you can do is hop on a wave and ride it.
Our age has us filled to bursting with anxiety, recriminations, separations and segregations, categories, colonies, tribute, miniscule compensation, tokenism, lip service, creeds, dogmas, easy answers, false hopes, compromise, disappointment, emperor's new clothes, and wolves in sheep's clothing.
Spires That in the Sunset Rise have wandered these woods for nearly twenty years. Psychic Oscillations (FPE Records, due October 9) is an active meditation, an album that probes how time works and reworks itself through cyclical structures, loose improvisation, and wordless vocal play, plaints and praises. While at times celebratory, there is also a palpable urgency underlying the entire record. In the worldless vocalizations of sound and breath it is unabashedly body and at the same time entirely transcendent.
Spires That in the Sunset Rise come together with this crisis point in the now and offer this vessel, filled with psychic energy made physical in time. Psychic Oscillations was written over a span of time which included a condensed period of focus during an artist residency at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, summer of 2018. The instrumentation on this record hones in on cello, alto saxophone, flute, synthesizers, and voice. It is the Spires' twelfth album. Here and now.

In 1952, Folkways Records published the legendary six-LP series entitled the Anthology of American Folk Music, compiled by eccentric record collector, filmmaker, artist, and anthropologist Harry Smith. Many historians cite Smith’s reissue, with its recordings of country, blues, and gospel music from the 1920s and ‘30s, and its booklet containing idiosyncratic liner notes, esoteric artwork, and handmade design as a major impetus for the folk music revival of the 1950s and ‘60s. 68 years later, The Harry Smith B-Sides offers both a resonant listening experience and the closing of a collector’s circle. Sequenced in the identical order that Smith created, this new box set offers the flip-side of each record selected by Smith for the original Anthology of American Folk Music.
Essays by John Cohen, Lance Ledbetter, and Eli Smith.
Transcriptions and annotations for each track by more than 80 artists, writers, and musicians that have been inspired by Harry Smith's work including Daniel Bachman, Devendra Banhart, Sarah Bryan, Rosanne Cash, Dom Flemons, Steve Gunn, Will Oldham, Amanda Petrusich, Steve Roden, Art Rosenbaum, Nathan Salsburg, and Peter Stampfel.
•Newly-remastered audio under license from Gennett Records, Paramount Records, Sony Music Entertainment, and Universal Music Group. This four-CD box set represents a mirror image of the Anthology of American Folk Music’s tracklist. However, the producers have omitted the following tracks due to lyrics containing racist language: track 5 on disc 1, track 4 on disc 2, and track 16 on disc 4. Full tracklist below.

Peaches Shares Interpretation Of T. Rex's "Solid Gold, Easy Action" From Hal Willner-Produced Homage

Peaches Shares Interpretation Of T. Rex's "Solid Gold, Easy Action" From Hal Willner-Produced Homage
26-Song Collection Angelheaded Hipster: The Songs Of Marc Bolan And T. Rex Out September 4 On BMG
Peaches has released her interpretation of the T. Rex hit “Solid Gold, Easy Action,” from the Hal Willner-produced “massive, star-studded” (Consequence of Sound) collection AngelHeaded Hipster: The Songs of Marc Bolan and T. Rex, out September 4 on BMG.
Listen here: https://T-Rex.lnk.to/SolidGoldPR
Of all the Bolan versions uncovered so far from this treasure trove, Peaches is perhaps the most radical, but a perfect example of how Bolan’s influence spreads across the musical world. The original 1972 hit was a quick release of electric frustration, while Peaches has created something more electronica and industrial, a cut ‘n’ paste feel as the track develops that suits the musical traditions of its recording location of Berlin. Nevertheless, Bolan’s gender-fluid, glam persona also plots a straight line to Peaches who has spent the past two decades upending stereotypes and challenging social norms while championing issues of gender equality and sexual identity with biting wit and fearless originality. "Solid Gold, Easy Action" joins the artists together over time and genres.
Says Peaches, “Hal and I always wanted to work on music together and when this came up, Hal was hellbound on getting me involved. He came to Berlin and set me up with Budgie (Siouxsie and the Banshees) and Knox Chandler . Then I went to NYC to mix with Hal and Marc (Urselli). I’m grateful to have had this time with Hal and that’s mainly why this track means so much to me."
“Solid Gold, Easy Action” is the fifth song to be released from Angelheaded Hipster, following Joan Jett’s "Jeepster," Kesha’s “Children of the Revolution,” Devendra Banhart’s “Scenescof” and Nick Cave’s “Cosmic Dancer.” Each of the 26 tracks on Angelheaded Hipster was produced by the acclaimed Hal Willner, who passed away from COVID-19 in April. Willner had previously served as the Saturday Night Live sketch music producer for nearly 40 years, produced albums for Lou Reed, Marianne Faithfull and William S. Burroughs, and concept albums drawing upon the music of Thelonious Monk, Kurt Weill, vintage Disney films and others.
For AngelHeaded Hipster, Willner brought together a wide-ranging cast to reimagine Bolan’s greatest songs - Jett, Kesha, Banhart and Cave plus Marc Almond, Børns, Helga Davis, Perry Farrell, Elysian Fields, Gavin Friday, Emily Haines, Jesse Harris, King Khan, Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Maria McKee, Father John Misty, John Cameron Mitchell, Gaby Moreno, Nena, Beth Orton, Peaches, Todd Rundgren, Lucinda Williams, Victoria Williams With Julian Lennon and U2 Feat. Elton John. AngelHeaded Hipster will be available on CD, LP and digital.
Hal Willner worked on AngelHeaded Hipster for several years, with sessions spanning continents, from New York, Los Angeles and New Orleans, to London, Paris and Berlin. The project was conceived and executive produced by Bill Curbishley and Ethan Silverman. Kate Hyman had the creative vision to ask Willner to produce it.
Marc Bolan was a folk pop troubadour, Glam Rock’s metal guru, a pop star who burned as bright as any, a brilliant guitarist, style icon and poet. He has been famously cited as a major influence by some of the biggest names in music, from David Bowie to Johnny Marr. He died in 1977 aged just 29, after a car crash in London.

About The B-52sSelling over 20 million albums worldwide, The B-52s—Fred Schneider [vocals], Kate Pierson [vocals], Cindy Wilson [vocals], — have quietly impacted alternative music, fashion, and culture over the course of four-plus decades. They count John Lennon, Madonna, James Murphy, and Michael Stipe among their disciples. Panic! At The Disco, Blood Orange, The Offspring, Pitbull, Roger Sanchez, and DJ Shadow have sampled classics from the band’s discography as Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy, The Simpsons, Sugarland, and more offered up covers of their own. They inched towards the forefront of the post-punk movement in America codified by 1979’s self-titled The B-52s. Not only did the record go gold, but it also placed at #152 on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” and #99 on VH1’s “Greatest Albums of All Time.” The gold-selling Wild Planet arrived hot on its heels in 1980. With Keith Strickland brilliantly filling the void in with music composition and live show guitar duties, 1989’s watershed Cosmic Thing elevated the B-52s to another galaxy altogether. It moved 5 million-plus units and spawned a string of Top 10 smashes in the form of the GRAMMY®-nominated “Roam” and “Love Shack”—which Rolling Stone lauded on the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

NY Indie Music Venues Form Association, Launch Congressional Pressure Campaign To #SaveOurStages

NEW YORK CITY INDEPENDENT MUSIC VENUES LAUNCH NEW YORK INDEPENDENT VENUE ASSOCIATION (NYIVA)IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NATIONAL INDEPENDENT VENUE ASSOCIATION (NIVA)
CALL FOR URGENT ACTION: CONGRESS MUST PASS THE SAVE OUR STAGES ACT TO SAVE LIVE MUSIC IN NEW YORK CITY
OUR INDUSTRY IS ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE WITHOUT FEDERAL ASSISTANCE
#SAVEOURSTAGES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 4, 2020 (New York City, NYC)
Over 150 Independent venues in New York City have come together to form the New York Independent Venue Association (NYIVA) in affiliation with the newly formed National Independent Venue Association (NIVA). Today, August 4th, we are calling for a day of action to seek support for our current very pressing issues.
Without an influx of federal funding 90% of independent music venues across the nation will collapse before congress reconvenes in the fall. This includes iconic New York venues such as The Bitter End, City Winery, NUBLU, Nuyorkian Poets Cafe, Good Room, Bowery Ballroom, Baby’s Alright, The Knitting Factory and more.
We are asking for our congresspeople and our community to support two bills that could save our industry: Save Our Stages Act and Restart Act, two bills that have been introduced and can ensure the survival of independent venues across the nation. The Save Our Stages Act also impacts Broadway.
Music venues were the first to close and we will be the last to re-open. Most venues are at risk of going out of business if nothing is done. On average, a venue will need $300,000 to sustain itself if they are to remain closed until 2021. ( $60 million for the industry in aggregate)On average, a NY venue already has $150,000 their landlord could claim in arrears and more than 80% of venues have no definitive arrangement with their landlords. Live streaming has yet to become a viable source of revenue. The average NY venue’s monthly profit from F&B, live streams, and merchandise comes out to $375 (after labor and cost of goods). We are disastrously close to losing NY’s cultural lifeblood. Nationally, over 1.5 million live music lovers have written letters to their elected officials via SaveOurStages.com, but it’s not enough. Our voices are powerful and we must ensure our elected officials realize that no action will result in the forfeiture of NY’s cultural identity.
If you have questions or would like to speak further about this, please contact NYIVA Co-chairs: Jen Lyon jen@meanredproductions.com (Founder of MeanRed Productions) or Justin Kantor justin@nivassoc.org (Co-founder/Managing Member of Le Poisson Rouge, Co-Founder/VP of NIVA)

ABOUT NIVA: Formed at the onset of the COVID-19 shutdown, the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), now represents more than 2,000 members in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. These independent venues and promoters were the first to close and will be the last to fully reopen. NIVA’s mission is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues, promoters and festivals throughout the United States.
About NYIVA: Over 150 Independent venues in New York City have come together to form the New York Independent Venue Association (NYIVA) in affiliation with the newly formed National Independent Venue Association. NYIVA is co-chaired by Jen Lyon jen@meanredproductions.com (Founder of MeanRed Productions) and Justin Kantor justin@nivassoc.org (Co-founder/Managing Member of Le Poisson Rouge, Co-Founder/VP of NIVA)
The Save Our Stages Act (S. 4258), introduced by Senators Cornyn and Klobuchar, and the RESTART Act (S. 3814 / H.R. 7481), introduced by Senators Young and Bennet and Representatives Golden and Kelly, provide vital support for independent venues that have lost nearly 100% of their revenue since the pandemic began in March. These venues will remain closed well into 2021 due to safety concerns posed by large gatherings. These institutions draw most of their revenue from acts that tour the United States, and until it’s safe to do so en masse, it won’t be possible for venues to bring back their staff. 90% of the 2,400 national members of NIVA have stated that they will be forced to close their doors if the shutdown lasts 6 months or more and they do not get meaningful support from Congress.
