07:11:34: My bad character: reading "inspirational/spiritual" books too often makes me want to grab and shake the writers thereof.
07:13:13: It's the same under-flavor that makes me spit out cozy food-oriented mysteries (other than Miss Marple. Go figure.)
21:46:04: New posts at http://e-moon60.livejournal.com/, one on air travel and one on Virginia gov's blunder.

Bad Judgment in Virginia
So the Republican governor of Virginia decides to declare "Confederate History Month" and talk about states fighting for their independence, their freedom....without mentioning slavery, the root of the so-called glory.
History lesson: the South did not fight for "freedom". The white men of the South fought for the right to enslave others. And thank God Almighty, they lost. Over a hundred years ago.
The Confederate flag never stood for freedom and justice for all. It never stood...

Another Reason to Avoid Air Travel
Once upon a time, in my childhood, there was one reason not to fly: cost. Airline travel was expensive. But if you could afford it (we took a trip by air to the east coast when I was eleven and one to Colorado to see my cousin graduate from the Air Force Academy when I was eighteen), it was fun and pleasant. Just considering the actual trip itself, what the airline was responsible for, it was definitely a plus. Seats were wide enough for real people, with actual leg-room (even a leg...

11:06:32: Some words on BK III, but now the sun's coming out and it's spring. And I have herbs to set out. Garden to water. Etc.
16:11:36: First pea flower!! Though now R- has forgotten where he planted the snap as opposed to the sugar peas...I guess we'll find out.
16:12:13: Was informed I should be watering garden in morning. I *write* in the morning. Someone knows that. Someone who could be watering...

Choosing Stupid
None of us are born knowing how to make good choices. We don't get to choose our parents, to start with, and so as babies we come into the world already subject to someone else's choices (good or bad); for years after that, we are legally constrained by the choices others make for us. Those choices open to us (if we have parents who allow children any choice--some don't) are, for a considerable time, trivial. They do give us a chance to experience ambivalence or express preference...

Texas and Me
From time to time someone assumes that because I criticize some Texas politicians I must not really know anything about Texas, or I'm a late immigrant. This started back with Rules of Engagement when I had some things to say about religious extremists and Texas separatists. That I also presented a positive picture of another side of Texas personality (with the woman Texas Ranger) didn't make any impression at all. And every time I say something about the governor, the Senators, my...

07:42:48: Forecast says frontal passage weather won't be as severe as earlier predictions. The sky says yeah, well, maybe...maybe not.
07:45:48: Must leave in 40 minutes to be at church on time for rehearsal for today's services. Must get choir robe from dryer and iron. Bleh.
07:48:03: OTOH, we get to sing the Bach again. And Mendelssohn. And...
