While we're on the subject of food...
...and I'm waiting for the Excedrin to kick this headache off the porch, I thought I'd talk about How I Cook. It won't take long, because it's all pretty simple. My mother cooked (of course--or we'd have been eating out of cans) and her friends cooked (some had maids who also cooked) so the concept of preparing food from scratch was familiar from early on. I started cooking very early, on the kind of child's stove that isn't made anymore because somebody might get hurt...a little...

14:18:22: Harvest today: snow peas, radishes (last), tiny carrots, spinach, lettuce (several kinds), arugula, mustard. Also parsley, green onions.
15:10:06: First dragonfly emergence (noted, anyway) in pond this year. Just out of exuviae, wings still folded, photo OK but not great.
18:33:17: Pot #4 (yes, I caved) on the stove, while pot #3 is in the oven.

Yes, another pot...
The 3.5 LeCreuset (pictured last week) is a fine little pot for a family meal, but not really big enough to make a company meal, or let me package some for friends. So now the 5.5 quart has joined it. Here it is on its first run, this afternoon/evening, with another "concoction stew" in it:
This one is beef, venison (leftover ground venison from the meatballs I made a day or so ago), beef stock, Ro-Tel tomatoes & green chilis, diced onions, garlic, chopped celery, various dried herbs...

13:08:30: Some mornings are not successful. Exhaustion plus cold house meant frozen self huddled under covers until near noon. Still tired.
13:27:08: Weather on internet says we're having a mostly sunny afternoon. I have yet to see a break in the thick clouds.

19:58:33: And now, lo, my LJ is accepting rich-text-editor posts. http://e-moon60.livejournal.com/ About meatballs.

Meatballs
If this works, writing with the Rich-text editor, which lets me upsize the font so I can actually read without sticking my nose on the screen, I'll be a happy camper. For awhile. Because I need to ramble on about meatballs, the edible kind. (Let's see now ....will it post just this little bit, and then let me edit and add to it? Or not?) (And hot diggety, it worked. This time.)
So today I went looking for something else in the freezer and kept tossing the baggie of ground venison out of ...

Iceland Volcano and World Travel
The ash cloud from the Iceland volcano has revealed the weakness and instability of international air travel--and the governments that both support and regulate it.
From the time the volcano first erupted, there was concern about air traffic safety, and yet no effort to avert the serious consequences of continued eruption and spread of ash into the jet stream on international travel seems to have been made. Airlines went right on scheduling flights, and moving people around, without warning a...

08:49:20: Wetness yesterday. Probably more today. Not sure when--the main lump of wet is well south & east of us.
09:17:59: How can it be after 10am already??? (Sound of mournful wail of woe echoing down the corridor, along with "Late! Late! I'm late!!")
11:26:08: I'm all for healthy eating unless it means giving up dark chocolate and Blue Bell ice cream. (Contemplates healthy stew in pot...)
16:39:05: Tossed mushrooms and some mustard (condiment, not leaves of) in the stew. May add some...

One more time trying to post
Supposedly if I use the HTML editor this will post (says the notice in the support bulletin.) As I normally use the Rich Text Editor, and everything was fine earlier today I had no idea that might be the problem, and spent quite a bit of time (and six attempts) trying to post and having the content eaten by LJ.
Let me just say that this is annoying. I don't give a flip about all the cutesie stuff LJ brags about...I just want a reliable way to post, read posts, upload images to posts. I wish...
