09:23:42: Missing book found lurking under carseat, revealed by cough drop sack that I pulled out and then saw book. Fell out during trip I guess.
11:19:42: Working on revisions of Kings & UK CE of Gird book. About to take a short walk.
13:48:10: Rewriting scene near end of Kings--Editor's right; it needs new shape. Tough--dunno ending, so hard to distract in the right direction.
17:14:37: Broke a window trying to open it. You'd think by this time I wouldn't do things like that.

07:13:02: The day has come, the walrus said, to give a cheerful shout...it's raining like a waterfall, but the new book has come out.
08:03:57: Computer thinks it knows better than I do when DST starts--it's wrong, but won't hold correction.
08:05:13: Of course, Congress was wrong to change DST dates (or having it in the first place!!) But I have to adjust time EVERY DAY...
09:13:07: Just tried out the software for this afternoon's live internet chat at http://www.suvudu.com/ Fun!

Today's the Day: Book's Out in US

The long wait (for me, anyway) is over... Oath of Fealty hits the shelves today in the US.

I'm doing a live chat with Jack Campbell (John Hemry) this afternoon at 4 pm EDT on the Suvudu site...did a test run of the software this morning, in fact, to make sure I had things set up right at this end.   You can get directly to the chat location here.    It's billed as a "Master Class on Research" so we'll be talking about the research techniques we use in both science fiction and fantasy, at...

15:35:49: First voice lesson in months. Less regression than feared, more than hoped. Now have three new pieces to work on, Purcell to memorize.
15:39:05: Did make it through Purcell's "If Music Be the Food of Love" today--not without incident, but better at end than beginning.
15:49:50: New pieces are a Scarlatti, a Vivaldi, and a Quilter. Vivaldi is "Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris" from the Gloria RV 589. Scary.
21:22:30: Self: the night before book release is not the night to disrupt the...

Voice Lesson after Hiatus

Today I had my first voice lesson in months...result of brown stuff meeting rotating blades in the Life category.  The hiatus, not today's lesson (and you thought I was a writer!)

I knew I'd regressed because I hadn't been practicing every day and also the choir's been off and on-ish.  I was afraid I'd slipped back to the lowest rung of the ladder or below, but apparently not.    I've mentioned before that one of the htings I like best about my instructor is that he's a perfectionist when it c...

10:01:46: Free download--new Paksworld story related to new books: http://www.suvudu.com/freelibrary/ Meet the king of Pargun.
12:03:25: I watered the vegetable garden. Peas have tendrils. Lettuce has other than cotyledons. Radishes, carrots. Buds popping. Warm, breezy.
12:05:36: Just opened study window--first time since fall. Lesser goldfinch on thistle sock. First iris (white) opened today.

Heads-up for Tuesday afternoon

I'm doing a live online chat with John Hemry (writing the Lost Fleet books as Jack Campbell) on Tuesday afternoon at the Suvudu site.   We're going to be talking about research methods (unless we get off topic, when our esteemed editor will no doubt restrain us!!)    We thought the differences and similarities of doing research in SF and fantasy would be of interest.

By all means, join the conversation if you have time that afternoon.  4 pm EDT, 3 pm CDT and so on.

Some Freebies

First, there's my blog post on the Orbit blogsite, about writing in two genres.  A little personal writing history background, etc.

Then, a new Paksworld story, related to the current books but not in them....available for free download at the Suvudu Free Library.   A bit of backstory on events in Kings of the North or a hint for Oath of Fealty.   If you ever wondered who was king in Pargun...

There's also a new post or two up at the Paksworld blog.  And if I get my act together, I might even g...

What a Difference a Day Makes...

But that will get all sentimental and confusing, so scrap that...arrived back from the exhibition opening at the Cushing Library at A&M yesterday after a great trip home to discover that the book (my one copy thereof) wasn't here, either.  Or at the friend's house that had seemed the most likely other location.   I had planned to leap from bed this morning, drive to the city, and see if I could find it at church, but realized that if I made that 100 mile round trip and didn't find it, I'd...

11:49:13: Back from A&M, and saw 100+ sandhill cranes spiralling to gain altitude & find thermal, east of Bartlett. Gorgeous! Always take binocs!!
11:49:58: Tree silhouettes complicated by swollen buds, flowers, first leaves--a lovely drive on back roads most of the way.
13:17:36: Also saw two bluebirds--brilliant color--on the drive home.
23:03:27: Had energy dropout with chills--yup, another sinus thing. Intelligent design my left little toe. They should be plug & play, with spares.
