Book Share Saturday!

CarlySaturday

I’m reading a combination of RITA books for the Romance Writer’s of America published author contest and I’m sworn to secrecy about which books I’m judging, so I can’t share this week!

Inquiring minds (nosey minds) want to know … WHAT ARE YOU READING?

*And a special thank you to VIOLET DUKE for my awesome graphic!

Get To Know Carly Thursday

IMG_0399 IMG_0730

My Kids.  Unless they’re driving me insane, they are at the top of my favorite things.  If you don’t know,  I have two daughters, ages 17 and 21.  One’s graduating high school this year and the other is graduating college.  I’m guessing that means one out of the house and another back in! Or it means empty nester.  Right now we don’t know.  I love having girls.  We’re close and it’s the best! Oh and we’re STILL WAITING on colleges … ARGH! I’m surprised I have hair left on m y head. Youngest on top pic, oldest below pic. We call oldest “mini-me”. I’m sure you can figure out why!

Your turn! Any kids? How many? Girl/boy/how many of each? Which sex is easiest to raise? Personally I wouldn’t know what to do with a boy!

Questions, Questions, Questions!

We’re all readers, that I already know.  But I do have some questions for you!

1. Book or eReader?

2. If eReader – which one?

3. If eReader – do you read the back matter in your ebooks? (chapter of a new book, info on author etc.)

4. What do you like in the back of your books?

5. And these days, how do you find “new to you” authors?

6. Any other info you think an Indie author with control over what goes into their books should know?

MY ANSWERS to the above questions:

1. eReader

2. iPad – Kindle App

3. Sometimes I read chapters of an author who isn’t the author whose book I just finished; usually I do read the author’s new previews

4. I like to sign up for an author’s newsletter, their FB, Twitter, website info.  Then chapters can be a bonus!

5. I find new authors by following reviewer blogs in email, FB posts from sites I follow, recommendations from people I trust!

6. That’s why I asked you!

Happy Birthday Brady

Baby boy is three. How that is possible, I don’t know.  TIME FLIES!  A little about him: He’s a cuddler, a doofus, and a silly boy.  He keeps me company while I write, curling up on my right side while I sit in my recliner or on my bed and work.  He gives Bailey a hard time at the bottom of the steps on her way up, trying to play King.  (Hence the crown).  He has some bad habits that I can not post anywhere on the Internet.  It’s just too humiliating.  But he makes up for it every other way.  He isn’t Buddy’s replacement but he has filled a hole in my  heart and he definitely adds joy to my life.  So HAPPY BIRTHDAY SILLY MAN!

IMG_0913 Tell me about pets.  Have any? Dog? Cat? Plural? Multiples? And wish the silly man a happy birthday.  He likes to feel important

So Long …

“I’m so glad we had this time together
Just to have a laugh or sing a song
Seems we just get started and before you know it
Comes the time we have to say, “So long.”<

Sung by Carol Burnett at the close of THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW each night. At the close of each episode Carol would tug her ear. According to Wikipedia, this silent message was meant for her grandmother who raised her, and meant she was thinking of her at that moment.

Well consider this our ear tug.  We’re thinking of you and always will be.  Please please take your time and sign up for each of us, every way you want to keep in touch!

THIS ISN’T GOODBYE, IT’S SO LONG … and to prove it, here are the ways for you to reach each of us.  We’re listing them all, keeping in mind that not everyone partakes in every social media outlet.  Rest assured, we are always around!

Best of Carly

For me, winding up the blog isn’t just about having nothing more to say.  Truth is, as evidenced by my many many Facebook posts, I can chat up a storm online.  It’s about focus and where to put it in this crazy era of so many outlets for people and their time.  With each of us writing different genres, needing to reach different audiences, trying to find a way to sell books and keep in touch with beloved friends, something had to give.  Not the friendships, though.  Never ever those.  I love these ladies and they will always be an integral part of my life and my heart.  So will all of you.   I just want to say I’m typing this with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. You’ve all brought us so much joy to me, and please know that whether you posted or not, I felt you were here. xo

Now on to something fun.  My favorite Carly Blog of all time.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.  Cliched but true! Back in 2007, I was a true Apple junkie. In fact, that was the year the first iPhone arrived and guess what? The first iPhone came out June 29, 2007 (my parents anniversary! And who knew five years later, my dad would be gone?  … ANYWAY – where was I on that date? In line outside the Apple Store, of course!

In fact, I brought a laptop and blogged from the line … and THAT is my favorite Carly Blog of all time.  I know, I know you thought it would be a Don’t Travel with Carly story! Nope! Now as always, it’s all things Apple!

Want to read the blog from when I waited on line? CLICK HERE!  I know it made me laugh!  Fast- forward 5 years to 2013 (almost 2014) and not much has changed.  I still have an iPhone, now an iPad Mini, a Macbook Air … and I keep an eye out for anything new from Apple.

What was your favorite Carly blog if you can remember one? Doesn’t have to be specific.  What is it about me that stood out over the years?

Random Thought

Last night I was packing for a trip and I started to clean out the “medicine” cabinet. I’d say we all have one, but I’m thinking I’m kinda extreme. Anyway, I could swear I do periodic scanning and tossing of things, but I got to doing a full out exam of all bottles in there and ended up filling a garbage bag full of things. How do I have pills from 2010 if I’ve cleaned this thing out? Which leads me to believe, I really should do a full drawer toss when I get home of just about everything in the house. We’ve lived here for almost 18 years. I can honestly say that now, with my youngest applying to colleges, I no longer say, “put this in the basement” when I’m finished with it and “might” use it someday. Because I know that the day I have to clean out that basement is sooner rather than later. I can see us moving to Florida within the next 5 years and I just don’t know how I’d ever empty this whole house!

Don’t ask me how a post on a medicine cabinet turned into a post on … not hoarding but saving. So are your cabinets clean and up to date? Or do you need a good overhaul? What about your whole house?

College Process

I’m going to be short and brief today … in for Leslie. I just want to say I am tortured, tortured by my daughter not hearing from her college choice and other kids in her school getting in to same college, whose applications went in way later. No news is good news doesn’t help when your kid is frustrated and unhappy. Give a date and everyone hears on that date. This rolling stuff is UNFAIR I tell you! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
