Monday Madness
I was so busy at a Facebook Author Party last night for Lauren Blakely and Laurelin Paige, I honestly forgot to post a blog! So a mishmosh of things for you today -
1. 17 Days until DARE TO DESIRE is available on April 10, 2014 (eBook, print & soon audio) so a teaser is in order:
“Has anyone ever said no to you?” she asked, hoping he didn’t notice the tears of frustration in her eyes, the pain in her voice for the things she wanted but could never have. “Not when it mattered,” he said, his honesty surprising her. “And you matter. I also know how to work for what I want. And Madison?” He looked directly into her eyes. “I want you.”

Blogging & Covers
When we closed doors at the Plotmonkeys Blog, there were a variety of reasons, each of us having our own personal ones. When I opened doors here, it was because I realized I wanted to just have a place to express myself, my thoughts on reading, and to just talk to my readers. I never in a million years thought so many people would come by every day. I’m just so humbled and happy. Wanted you all to know that! I also want you to know that even if I don’t reply each day, I read every single comment. Yep, each one and they all mean something to me.
So today I want to talk about my current covers. Going by DARE TO LOVE & DARE TO DESIRE … love ‘em? Think the series needs a different vision on the cover? Or does it work for you? Do you like it because it SAYS CARLY PHILLIPS in a familiar way? I’m good through July but will have to start thinking about covers for ongoing books in the series, so I’m curious!

Brady’s Day
First, a big THANK YOU to everyone who showed up to bravely show Carly support for yesterday’s post on depression. She loves you all and I promised to say that up front. Now on to more important things. ME. Aren’t I the cutest thing? I’m cuddling between mommy and Jen. I’m the easiest dog.
What? Don’t tell them that! OK fine. I’m a pain in the ass. Instead of relaxing during the day, I start to whine like I want to go downstairs. And I won’t go alone. I want company. Except I don’t really want anything down there, I just want to annoy mommy. So she’s started to ignore me. Does she really think that’ll stop me? I can be just as stubborn as she can.
Oh and one more thing. DARE TO LOVE is available in AUDIO on Audible. Coming soon on Amazon and iTunes!
Do you listen to Audio? Will you buy and help mommy keep me in dog biscuits? What’s that? Oh sorry. Mommy says it’s not nice to beg.

The Truth
I debated on posting this blog. Not because I’m ashamed – I’m one of the most open, honest people you’ll ever meet, but because it’s just hard. But lately, some very brave writer friends of mine have come out admitting they suffer from depression and as I’m going through another bout myself, I thought it was fitting I come clean too. I think many creative people suffer more – perhaps because we feel things more deeply – or maybe we’re just more in tune to FEELINGS since that’s what we write about all day. I don’t know. But for as long as I can remember, I know I’ve felt off. And let’s face it, I didn’t grow up in an era where everyone went to psychiatrists/psychologists or admitted to taking medication. That said, I’m very lucky, in that I grew up in a very functional household where were encouraged to talk about what was bothering us. Which helped. A lot. Then, when I was in my junior year of college, I contracted asceptic meningitis (not the deadly kind thank God) and within that time period, my doctor picked up on my off emotions. This led to therapy and my first try with medication. Which I advocate very highly if needed, because I don’t believe anyone should suffer when they can be helped. That said, please don’t use this blog as a place to argue about the negative effects of medication. I just wanted to say, I believe it’s something that works.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t ALWAYS work and it doesn’t always CONTINUE to work. Which brings me to where I am now. Trying to regulate and get it right. In the meantime, it’s not fun or pleasant. Last week I had a cold and spent the week in bed. You can read between the lines. This week I’m not really working yet. One thing my doctor did mention is SADD (seasonal disorder) and that’s possible. I mean, if I don’t see some sunshine soon, I may just lose my mind. But since I’ve always had this in one form or another, I’m sure that’s not all it is.
What it is, is me. I’ve come to accept it even as I hate it. But too many things are kept in the closet and private, people feeling like there is something wrong with them if they admit they need help. There’s no shame in needing help, therapy, medication or anything similar. It just is. Like a cold is. Like a heart attack is.
So this is my … it is what it is right now. And for some reason, I decided to admit the truth.

Makeup
When reviewers ask what would you be if you weren’t a writer, I always say I wish I could be like a makeup artist and learn to really do makeup well and correctly. I love product. I love new product even more. But for some reason, I haven’t bought makeup in a really long time. Which doesn’t mean I don’t own makeup. I’m overloaded with products. But I reached a point where I was bored with what was in my drawers, and what I did put on, I almost couldn’t notice it anymore because I’ve had it so long and am so used to wearing it. I have all the Laura Mercier eye shadow, lipstick, blush, etc. I need. Same with Mac. Same with Clinique.
I went to the mall with hubby yesterday, and he’s a mad mall rusher. Go in, get what you need, get out. Still, I was determined to fit in finding new stuff. I found a makeup artist in Nordstroms, explained my dilemma and she suggested a new to me (not new to anyone else) line, SMASHBOX. I’ve heard of it, of course, but never tried it. Well, I came home with 2 eye shadow trios, 2 liners, lipstick and gloss, and blush. For now, I still have my Laura Mercier foundation. Can’t wait to try it all tomorrow. I’ll have to let you know how it goes.
What’s your favorite makeup brand/product?
