Birthdays!
I got home late last night from a friend’s 50th bday party and have an early doctor’s appointment so I’m rushing, which means this will be short! Birthdays never bothered me much. Age I mean. The only difficult one I had was 30 – I think leaving my 20′s really felt like I was an ADULT. Of course I already had 2 kids so why the heck this bothered me is beyond me now. I’ll be 50 next year. And … so what?
How do you feel about birthdays/age? Bother you? Did any particular age (decade, LOL) hit harder than another?

Allergies
I’m guessing whether you are suffering along with me or not depends on where you live. You know I’m in NY. Although it mostly feels like we’ll never have a Spring and go right into Summer, it’s occasionally warm enough for things to start to bud and grow. While beautiful, there’s lots of side effects we don’t like to think about. But I sure am feeling them. Runny nose and at times stuffy nose, scratchy throat, up at night coughing, headaches, and some other things we just don’t need to get into. I had allergy shots as a kid and so overall my allergies are under control but I’m starting to feel them … and I am not happy about it. ACHOO!
Is it allergy season where you live? Are you having problems?

Creativity
There’s a very big difference between being a writer (one form of creativity) and having the ability to do graphics, visualize things, understand colors, layouts, etc. It’s been frustrating to me that I don’t have the ability to create graphics when I need for book promotion. Basic ones, easy and spur of the moment. And when I have to ask someone, it’s impossible for them to get inside my brain and know what I want. It’s even harder for me to explain. Photoshop is difficult and has a steep learning curve. Someone suggested I try www.picmonkey.com for an easy way to create. I tried. Guess what? Not so easy! But not impossible either. Especially since another friend did a blog post “How To”. I pretty much followed it step by step and created my first graphic teaser. I’m kinda impressed with myself! But it will be a challenge next time too. These things just don’t come easily for me. Grrr.
So … TADA! The product of my attempt.
Did I mention I equally suck at finding graphics to use and have to have friends do it for me? Sigh.
What talent do you wish you had?

Keeping Track
How do you keep track of your life? For years, I used a big 8×10 calendar that had enough room for the kids’ activities and appointments as well as my own. Then, I downgraded to a small pocket calendar in my bag so I could make appointments on the run and while I was out of the house. As the iPhone era grew, people who knew I was a big techie couldn’t understand why I had a paper calendar when my phone would do everything — uh … creature of habit! Eventually and shockingly I let myself rely on my phone calendar – iCal. Everything in my computer (which showed me a nice big screen of the month like my old calendars) would be on my phone so I could make appointments when I needed to.
But lately this hasn’t been the case. Lately, there are many things not showing up on my phone that are on my calendar and visa versa. I’ve been really annoyed and frustrated. I mean I need to rely on this right? I tried to Google the problem and got nowhere. At some point, I must have seen or read that the problem has to do with the amount of items in your calendar. Over a certain amount and they won’t transfer/show up. I have no idea if this is true. I just know … THINGS AREN’T SHOWING UP.
Two days ago, I ordered a calendar from Amazon. It’s not tiny and it’s not large. It’s annoying in that it has monthly and weekly, so I needed to take paper clips and clip so I only turn from month to month. It fits in my huge handbag, so that’s OK and it’s not heavy so it doesn’t add weight to my already ten ton purse. But still. This isn’t right. In the age of technology, I should be able to have ONE calendar and rely on it right? Sigh.
So … two questions. If you have an answer to my iPhone iCal issues, I’d love to know. And how do you keep track of everything in your life? Paper? Computer/cloud technology like I tried? What works for you?

Happy Birthday Buddy – You are missed
If you were around during the early plotmonkey days, you remember I had a dog named BUDDY. Buddy was the best dog. Oh, he had his bad habits, pooping in certain rooms, occasionally in his crate … he had fur that wasn’t the easiest to keep groomed … but he was the light of my life and the dog of my heart. He wasn’t my first dog, so I can honestly say I know the difference. Each dog is different, each brings something special to my life and my home. Buddy’s birthday is today. He was 12 1/2 when we lost him and its’ surreal for me to say he would have been 16. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUDDY BOY. You are always missed.
In a very odd way, Brady is very much like Buddy. He poops where he wants (not in the crate thank goodness), he has that cranky fur that’s hard to keep easily groomed. When he looks into my eyes, I think he really knows me. But it’s hard to believe he never knew Buddy. Bailey did. She never showed me she missed him. I think she knew it was his time and he needed to go. But she loved him. And so did I.

Windows
I’m still recuperating from the migraine from hell … 48 hours in and I’m first feeling human so this may be short. Tomorrow we are having our windows cleaned in the house, inside and out. You might think this isn’t a big deal … but to my shame, we have lived here for 18 years and this is the first time we’ve brought in a professional window cleaner. My mom has hers done yearly. I’m so ashamed. :hidingunderchair: Is this something most people do and I just missed the memo? Or in this case ignored my mom all these years? LOL. Please don’t think less of me. We’re really very clean. Just not our windows.

Monday :(
Sorry … not only is it Monday but I’m recuperating from an awful migraine that had me in bed all day yesterday. I’m sure I can get up today which is an improvement, but it’s still not good. So nothing witty to offer today. Just a cute pic I posted on FB.
