Notes:
(1) The House of Gaunt has a very Craster's Keep vibe to it.
(2) Merope seems right out of a Jane Austen novel.
(3) Dumbledore: "The Gaunts [were] noted for a vein of instability and violence that flourished through the generations due to their habit of marrying their own cousins."
- Not so different than European royals, then... and a fair bit better than Egyptians.

Notes:
(1) '"Snape!" ejaculated Slughorn, who looked the most shaken, pale
and sweating. "Snape! I taught him! I thought I knew him!"'
- I sincerely hope that "ejaculated" means something different in British English.
(2) Fleur snatches ointment from Molly and takes over dabbing Bill. Ah, the symbolic passing of the ointment.
(3) Six down, one to go. I'll see you next book!

Notes:
(1) Kicking another wizard's wand must be akin to spitting in their face. At least Snape didn't snap Harry's in half.
(2) Gee, I haven't heard of the Hand of Glory since Book Two. That's a deep call back.
(3) Fleur: "You thought I would not weesh to marry him? ... What do I care how he looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I theenk!
- Haha! Nice one, Fleur.

Notes:
(1) On one hand, Harry should be less repetitive with spells. Petrificus Totalus over and over gets boring. On the other hand, if it works, why change?
(2) '"DON’T —" screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman ... "CALL ME COWARD!"'
- A regular Marty McFly right there: "Nobody. Calls me. Chicken!"
(3) "I, the Half-Blood Prince!"
- Like "I, Claudius"?

(1) Amycus calls Dumbledore "Dumby." I imagine a green stick of plasticine with a horse named Pokey.
(2) Fenrir: “I wouldn’t want to miss a trip to Hogwarts ... Not when there are throats to be ripped out... Delicious, delicious.”
- Can werewolves be cannibals? Or does it only count in human form?
(3) "Severus... please."
- Ah... reminds me of many a chatroom debate.

(1) Malfoy: "He’s a double agent, you stupid old man, he isn’t working for you."
Dumbledore: "We must agree to differ on that, Draco. It so happens that I trust Professor Snape."
- I use "agree to disagree" a lot too.
(2) Malfoy: "I got the idea... from the Mudblood Granger."
Dumbledore: "Please do not use that offensive word in front of me."
- Total boss to the end.

(1) Draco disarms Dumbledore... the significance of which is yet to be known. I love how Rowling seeds plot points in deep cuts.
(2) Dumbledore: "Killing is not nearly as easy as the innocent believe... So tell me, while we wait for your friends... how did you smuggle them in here?"
- The old "I'm going to die anyway, so tell me your plan" trick! Bond would be proud.

(1) Harry needs blood to open the archway. Luckily, he was already cut whilst fighting Inferi. Even zombies have a silver lining.
(2) '"It’s going to be all right, sir," Harry said over and over again ... "Don’t worry..."
"I am not worried, Harry," said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. "I am with you."'
- Hits me right in the feels.

Notes:
(1) How is Harry shocked that blood magic is a thing? Voldemort was revived by his blood!
(2) Dumbldore: "You are underage and unqualified. Voldemort would never have expected a sixteen-year-old to reach this place: I think it unlikely that your powers will register compared to mine."
- So... Harry should be glad the alarm can't detect his negligible amount of magic.

Notes:
(1) Perhaps Harry's grown too used to magic. He's fine charging headlong into danger, but a short swim in cold water totally freaks him out. Who is he? Film-Ron?
(2) "Harry had long since learned that bangs and smoke were more often the marks of ineptitude than expertise."
- I wonder if he's referring to Seamus, who's gimmick is he often accidentally blows things up?

(1) Ginny: "All Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a hippogriff tattooed across your chest ... I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail ... Much more macho."
- Harry's already kinda got a lightning bolt tattoo, and on his face too! I'd guess that's be even more macho.
(2) "Rage and resentment fought shock and excitement."
- Fight it! Angst was so Book 5.

Lol, yes, precisely! The Habsburg Chin didn't exactly happen by accident :)

After studying Cleopatra for English and history, I can definitely tell that the remark about the Egyptian line was fairly true. Cleopatra being the exception, as she married her ten-year-old brother, was exiled by him, and led a revolution against him in which he died...

Then again, Greek mythology...

Jayson AspiringAuthor wrote: "After studying Cleopatra for English and history, I can definitely tell that the remark about the Egyptian line was fairly true. Cleopatra being the exception, as she married her ten-year-old broth..."

Well, the entire Ptolemaic dynasty married brother to sister, whether they also procreated is another story. Cleopatra was probably waiting for her brother to come of age, in that specific case, until everything went down with the Romans.

With Greek mythology, I'm pretty sure deities are immune to the consequences of incest, though their manner may indicate otherwise.

Well, Greek mythology is insane enough. And it closely resembles the pureblood hierarchy/system.

Jayson AspiringAuthor wrote: "Well, Greek mythology is insane enough. And it closely resembles the pureblood hierarchy/system."

Greek gods are no different than any other nobility or royal lineage. The same rules apply, albeit with greater creative license.

Alexandra Elend Wolf And that, people, is why incest is a bad idea.

Sure wizards didn't use science, but who needs science when the results speak for themselves :)

Indeed. And shouldn't there be a spell that tells you this kind of thing? Like, your baby is sick or something like that?

Jayson Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "Indeed. And shouldn't there be a spell that tells you this kind of thing? Like, your baby is sick or something like that?"

Perhaps so, though after the baby's born, the damage is already done. Plus people can be set in their ways so far as tradition goes and, as with today, there's no amount of reason that's able to budge deep set superstition.

True enough. People are stubborn.

But this does make me think that we still know so little of the Wizarding world. I mean, we know next to nothing about their health system a side from how they treat normal injuries. But, like, don't they also have cancer? Or more serious illnessess?

Jayson Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "I mean, we know next to nothing about their health system a side from how they treat normal injuries. But, like, don't they also have cancer? Or more serious illnessess?"

Well, wizards do live longer than normal people, so perhaps their genetics are different and they're less susceptible to cancer. Alternatively, like many things, they might be very medieval about medicine and consider it a lost cause once detected.

Alexandra Elend Wolf Jayson wrote: "Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "I mean, we know next to nothing about their health system a side from how they treat normal injuries. But, like, don't they also have cancer? Or more serious illnessess..."

I can see the medieval approach... Kind of funny to think though with all the capacity they would have... *lol*

Jayson Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "I can see the medieval approach... Kind of funny to think though with all the capacity they would have... *lol*"

It's a very anachronistic world they live in. Technology hasn't progressed beyond ink, quills and parchment, and fashion hasn't evolved past robe, cloaks and pointy hats. You'd think wizards would have some spirit of innovation, but seemingly they like things they way they always have been 🤷‍♂️

You'll think that with muggle-borns they'll HAVE modernization. Like, none of these kids that come from worlds with TVs and such EVER thought that magic wasn't enough and technology wouldn't kill anyone? Or that modern clothes are WAY more comfortable than robes? No one. Not a single person *raises skeptical eyebrows*

I think maybe passing through to the wizarding world is sort of like visiting another country. You sort of temporarily adopt the culture and way of living while you're there. In some countries, for example, women wearing trousers is simply unacceptable. It may be that wearing muggle clothes or using electronics would be similarly taboo.

Sure, if you are gonna be there for just a little while. But muggle-borns usually stay in the wizarding world so they aren't exactly visits.

Yeah, maybe is taboo and unnaceptable but I think some of them would have started to at least try to change those feelings. You know, paphlets and educational seminars or stuff like that. I mean, Hermione literally campaings to free the house elves but everything else is unatainable? I just find it hard to believe.

Jayson Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "Sure, if you are gonna be there for just a little while. But muggle-borns usually stay in the wizarding world so they aren't exactly visits."

I don't know, if I moved full-time to another country, I'd probably adopt their dress and customs as well. Wouldn't want to offend the locals unnecessarily or be intentionally iconoclastic.

Alexandra Elend Wolf wrote: "Yeah, maybe is taboo and unnaceptable but I think some of them would have started to at least try to change those feelings. You know, paphlets and educational seminars or stuff like that."

I don't know if needing to wear jeans and t-shirts is so important to people that they would want to start an educational campaign. Plus, some of the fun of experiencing different cultures is wearing local garb.

Maybe you'd want to do that to reduce prejudice against people who would choose to take on taboo habits and dress, but I figure that they'd be more or less accommodating already, they'd just look at you weird. Like how Harry was late to get off the train and had to wear muggle clothes in the great hall in front of everyone as a punishment.

Okay. All that is fair. I suppose it can be quite fun for them. And, I mean, it's not like they can't go to the muggle world if they want to.

Fine, I'll admit that last tired was a bit farfetched *lol*

Yeah, and it's not like wizard's can't dress like muggles. They do it all the time when they want to blend in. It's the same thing, but in reverse, where they visit the muggle world and dress like muggles... or at least their interpretation of what muggles dress like. The only non-muggle-born wizard who was actually good at it was Barty Crouch Sr.
