(1) On one hand, Harry should be less repetitive with spells. Petrificus Totalus over and over gets boring. On the other hand, if it works, why change?

At least between DA meetings and the end of this book, she had a pretty limited repertoire as well.
True. She probably spent her time in the Deathly Hallows reading, considering that she brought half a library in her bag. What else was there to do in the tent?

It's not like it was a secret when he was at Hogwarts or a secret that Tom Riddle became Voldemort. With Snape, he probably just wanted a name that sounded cool.
