Notes:
(1) Harry needs blood to open the archway. Luckily, he was already cut whilst fighting Inferi. Even zombies have a silver lining.
(2) '"It’s going to be all right, sir," Harry said over and over again ... "Don’t worry..."
"I am not worried, Harry," said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. "I am with you."'
- Hits me right in the feels.

Notes:
(1) '"Snape!" ejaculated Slughorn, who looked the most shaken, pale
and sweating. "Snape! I taught him! I thought I knew him!"'
- I sincerely hope that "ejaculated" means something different in British English.
(2) Fleur snatches ointment from Molly and takes over dabbing Bill. Ah, the symbolic passing of the ointment.
(3) Six down, one to go. I'll see you next book!

Notes:
(1) Kicking another wizard's wand must be akin to spitting in their face. At least Snape didn't snap Harry's in half.
(2) Gee, I haven't heard of the Hand of Glory since Book Two. That's a deep call back.
(3) Fleur: "You thought I would not weesh to marry him? ... What do I care how he looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I theenk!
- Haha! Nice one, Fleur.

Notes:
(1) On one hand, Harry should be less repetitive with spells. Petrificus Totalus over and over gets boring. On the other hand, if it works, why change?
(2) '"DON’T —" screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman ... "CALL ME COWARD!"'
- A regular Marty McFly right there: "Nobody. Calls me. Chicken!"
(3) "I, the Half-Blood Prince!"
- Like "I, Claudius"?

Notes:
(1) Amycus calls Dumbledore "Dumby." I imagine a green stick of plasticine with a horse named Pokey.
(2) Fenrir: “I wouldn’t want to miss a trip to Hogwarts ... Not when there are throats to be ripped out... Delicious, delicious.”
- Can werewolves be cannibals? Or does it only count in human form?
(3) "Severus... please."
- Ah... reminds me of many a chatroom debate.

Notes:
(1) Malfoy: "He’s a double agent, you stupid old man, he isn’t working for you."
Dumbledore: "We must agree to differ on that, Draco. It so happens that I trust Professor Snape."
- I use "agree to disagree" a lot too.
(2) Malfoy: "I got the idea... from the Mudblood Granger."
Dumbledore: "Please do not use that offensive word in front of me."
- Total boss to the end.

Notes:
(1) Draco disarms Dumbledore... the significance of which is yet to be known. I love how Rowling seeds plot points in deep cuts.
(2) Dumbledore: "Killing is not nearly as easy as the innocent believe... So tell me, while we wait for your friends... how did you smuggle them in here?"
- The old "I'm going to die anyway, so tell me your plan" trick! Bond would be proud.

Notes:
(1) How is Harry shocked that blood magic is a thing? Voldemort was revived by his blood!
(2) Dumbldore: "You are underage and unqualified. Voldemort would never have expected a sixteen-year-old to reach this place: I think it unlikely that your powers will register compared to mine."
- So... Harry should be glad the alarm can't detect his negligible amount of magic.

Notes:
(1) Perhaps Harry's grown too used to magic. He's fine charging headlong into danger, but a short swim in cold water totally freaks him out. Who is he? Film-Ron?
(2) "Harry had long since learned that bangs and smoke were more often the marks of ineptitude than expertise."
- I wonder if he's referring to Seamus, who's gimmick is he often accidentally blows things up?

Notes:
(1) Ginny: "All Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a hippogriff tattooed across your chest ... I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail ... Much more macho."
- Harry's already kinda got a lightning bolt tattoo, and on his face too! I'd guess that's be even more macho.
(2) "Rage and resentment fought shock and excitement."
- Fight it! Angst was so Book 5.

Notes:
(1) Flitwick: “A little less talk, a little more action."
- Wasn't that an Elvis song? No, wait, that was "A Little Less Conversation."
(2) Harry's mind: "She’s Ron’s sister. But she’s ditched Dean! She’s still Ron’s sister. I’m his best mate! That’ll make it worse. If I talked to him first — He’d hit you. What if I don’t care? He’s your best mate!"
- Ron, Ron, Ron.

Dumbledore has a thing for the underdogs; Elphias Doge says that explicitly in the last book. Hagrid, Newt, Harry...for some reason, he trusts them more than McGonagall.

Yeah, I'd throw Snape in there too. He's a bit of an underdog, especially in school with James and the others. No one likes him, but Dumbledore trusts him the most.

Yeah, that's true.

Honestly though I don't see why he doesn't trust Minerva as much. She's smart, fast, fierce and extremely powerful, and unlike most of them she's very decisive. I would pick her, but then I'm nowhere near as smart as Dumbledore anyway

Possibly he doesn't want to taint her standing in any way, like when he shushed her when the whole Dumbldore's Army arrest happened. Because, if Dumbledore goes down, he's going to need her to step up and have plausible deniability about all his anti-Ministry dealings.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

He wouldn't actually have needed that deniability if he hadn't trusted the people who were considered "shady" in the first place. So I guess it would work either way, and JK Rowling decided to play it the more interesting way. Because to be fair, Minerva would have gotten everything done a hell of a lot more efficiently.

I would have reread it already if I hadn't lost half my series in a flood. I have the first, third, fifth and sixth books. The others are gone.

I guess so. You're right, efficiency doesn't make for the best story. Leave to to Dumbledore to pick the most interesting option :)

Sasha The bond between Harry and Dumbledore in this book!😭😭

Jayson Sakshi wrote: "The bond between Harry and Dumbledore in this book!😭😭"

I agree. Though it does get strained throughout the book up until the end, but the cave scene more than makes up for it :)

幽灵 The ending was just so so sad!!! Dumbledore died for nothing too! I would have been okay if that locket was an actual horcrux...

Jayson Rose wrote: "The ending was just so so sad!!! Dumbledore died for nothing too! I would have been okay if that locket was an actual horcrux..."

Well, Dumbledore was going to die anyway, having been poisoned destroying the horcrux in the ring, so it depends on whether you consider one horcrux worth his life. The ending was just him trying to maximize the effect of an inevitable death.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I think without the RAB locket, Harry wouldn't have gone through half of the Deathly Hallows (earning Kreacher's loyalty, finding the real locket, infiltrating the Ministry) which would have left one Horcrux incomplete anyway. So not only did Dumbledore lead Harry to the real Horcrux in a roundabout way, he did get Harry to forgive Kreacher, which he had been pushing for in HBP.

that didn't make much sense did it

Jayson AspiringAuthor wrote: "that didn't make much sense did it"

I understand exactly what you meant. It's the butterfly effect, where one innocuous occurrence has strong and unforeseen ripple effects down the line.

there we go. Much more concise than my half-nonsense ramblings. Sometimes I just can't English.
