Notes:
(1) We're introduced to the idea of inferi, which are essentially zombies. The lack of a full-blown zombie chase is one of the series' big missed opportunities.
(2) "The wandlight sparkled on [Slughorn's] shiny pate, his prominent eyes, his enormous, silver, walruslike mustache ..."
- Again with the animal descriptors.
(3) Gwenog Jones must be the Welshest name ever.

(1) '"Snape!" ejaculated Slughorn, who looked the most shaken, pale
and sweating. "Snape! I taught him! I thought I knew him!"'
- I sincerely hope that "ejaculated" means something different in British English.
(2) Fleur snatches ointment from Molly and takes over dabbing Bill. Ah, the symbolic passing of the ointment.
(3) Six down, one to go. I'll see you next book!

Notes:
(1) Kicking another wizard's wand must be akin to spitting in their face. At least Snape didn't snap Harry's in half.
(2) Gee, I haven't heard of the Hand of Glory since Book Two. That's a deep call back.
(3) Fleur: "You thought I would not weesh to marry him? ... What do I care how he looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I theenk!
- Haha! Nice one, Fleur.

(1) On one hand, Harry should be less repetitive with spells. Petrificus Totalus over and over gets boring. On the other hand, if it works, why change?
(2) '"DON’T —" screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman ... "CALL ME COWARD!"'
- A regular Marty McFly right there: "Nobody. Calls me. Chicken!"
(3) "I, the Half-Blood Prince!"
- Like "I, Claudius"?

Notes:
(1) Amycus calls Dumbledore "Dumby." I imagine a green stick of plasticine with a horse named Pokey.
(2) Fenrir: “I wouldn’t want to miss a trip to Hogwarts ... Not when there are throats to be ripped out... Delicious, delicious.”
- Can werewolves be cannibals? Or does it only count in human form?
(3) "Severus... please."
- Ah... reminds me of many a chatroom debate.

(1) Malfoy: "He’s a double agent, you stupid old man, he isn’t working for you."
Dumbledore: "We must agree to differ on that, Draco. It so happens that I trust Professor Snape."
- I use "agree to disagree" a lot too.
(2) Malfoy: "I got the idea... from the Mudblood Granger."
Dumbledore: "Please do not use that offensive word in front of me."
- Total boss to the end.

Notes:
(1) Draco disarms Dumbledore... the significance of which is yet to be known. I love how Rowling seeds plot points in deep cuts.
(2) Dumbledore: "Killing is not nearly as easy as the innocent believe... So tell me, while we wait for your friends... how did you smuggle them in here?"
- The old "I'm going to die anyway, so tell me your plan" trick! Bond would be proud.

(1) Harry needs blood to open the archway. Luckily, he was already cut whilst fighting Inferi. Even zombies have a silver lining.
(2) '"It’s going to be all right, sir," Harry said over and over again ... "Don’t worry..."
"I am not worried, Harry," said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. "I am with you."'
- Hits me right in the feels.

Notes:
(1) How is Harry shocked that blood magic is a thing? Voldemort was revived by his blood!
(2) Dumbldore: "You are underage and unqualified. Voldemort would never have expected a sixteen-year-old to reach this place: I think it unlikely that your powers will register compared to mine."
- So... Harry should be glad the alarm can't detect his negligible amount of magic.

Notes:
(1) Perhaps Harry's grown too used to magic. He's fine charging headlong into danger, but a short swim in cold water totally freaks him out. Who is he? Film-Ron?
(2) "Harry had long since learned that bangs and smoke were more often the marks of ineptitude than expertise."
- I wonder if he's referring to Seamus, who's gimmick is he often accidentally blows things up?

Notes:
(1) Ginny: "All Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a hippogriff tattooed across your chest ... I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail ... Much more macho."
- Harry's already kinda got a lightning bolt tattoo, and on his face too! I'd guess that's be even more macho.
(2) "Rage and resentment fought shock and excitement."
- Fight it! Angst was so Book 5.

I'm confident you're not alone in that. I'm sure they creep out a lot of people. I reckon that's the point of them :)
Maja wrote: "book 3: have the school full of dementorsbook 6: have the school full of inferi"
Yes, they're nice renditions of classic horror creatures. It's a combination of the frighteningly familiar and the threatening unknown. You kind of know what they're about, but they're still new and mysterious.
Lol, not sure if brain eaters would step up the game from soul eaters, though I would low key love if there had been a full blown zombie infestation in the book xD My dark side loves the dark creepiness about the dementors, and they've helped inspire stuff for my own writing.
Maja wrote: "Lol, not sure if brain eaters would step up the game from soul eaters, though I would low key love if there had been a full blown zombie infestation in the book xD My dark side loves the dark creep..."Happy to hear that, Maja! It's always nice when creepy things inspire ideas :)
I've always felt that inferi never got their due in the series. Certainly not like werewolves and dementors, or even giants. Really, inferi are only involved at the cave scene at the end of this book. I feel like I missed out on some classic zombie action.

It's dark and twisted as it is and certainly doesn't need help
OH I had totally forgotten they were in the cave scene xD
Maja wrote: "LMAO I'm not sure my imagination should be encouraged. It's dark and twisted as it is and certainly doesn't need help"Well, so long as you're satisfied with your levels of dark and twisted :)
Maja wrote: "OH I had totally forgotten they were in the cave scene xD"
Yeah, it's one of those things where they were only used in that one scene. I mean, even the Basilisk and the Chamber of Secrets made a reappearance in the last book. Inferi should have been used to greater effect, but I guess they didn't fit in the greater scheme of things.

My imagination is never satisfied. She always trying to figure out more dark and twisted ways in which to torture characters in either fanfics or my own works. It's kinda intrusive when you're watching/reading something happy fluffy stuff and then boom brain goes "but what if...."
Yeah, even great concepts can fall short or be forgettable if it isn't utilized right. They don't have a central role which sort of makes them forgettable, at least in my case. I do remember them from the movie but I keep forgetting to connect them as the inferi.
Maja wrote: "My imagination is never satisfied. I'm heard Stephen King say the exact same thing, so you're in good company :)
okay, i know i said the fifth book is easily my favorite..... but this one is also my absolute favorite haha hope you enjoy!! 😋

Sakshi wrote: "Maybe Rowling doesn't know any other way to describe humans😂😂"She also does LOVE using adverbs. If you pay attention, you'd be shocked how prevalent they are. People are always doing things "stupidly" or "annoyingly" or "wearily" or "morosely" or "distractedly" or whatever-ly. Pick any random page and I bet you'll find five to ten descriptive adverbs or more.

that's true, she loves writing adverbLY. Maybe it's just the author's style. I know it gets annoying, i've read some other books where authors are FOND of using adjectives too much, or i read a series recently and it's author loves to juxtapose words weirdLY, it was SO annoying.

It's definitely her style to be adverb-heavy, but it works the tone of the series. I mean, it's not the worst thing in the world. It could be like Cormac McCarthy, who hardly use any adjectives, adverbs, or even punctuation.
