(1) The opening chapter is the first one not in Harry's POV. Another aspect that separates the latter books from the first three.
(2) The village of Little Hangleton reminds me a lot of Pagford from "The Casual Vacancy." Both feature an abandoned manor house, for example. I wouldn't be surprised if the germ of that book started with this chapter.

(1) For someone who doesn't think much of muggles, Fudge sure loves to wear their clothes.
(2) "Sirius Black!" [Mrs. Weasley] shrieked, pointing at him.
"Mum, shut up!" Ron yelled. "It’s okay!"'
- Often a good "shut up" is the quickest remedy for hysteria.
(3) Dumbledore forces Sirius and Snape to shake hands. Ever the teacher, ever the students.

(1) Fawkes uses his tears to speed up Harry's wounds healing. That's handy... sort of like wizard Polysporin.
(2) Now that Fleur likes Ron and pays him attention, I guess she's not hot no more. Not surprising. (see gif)
- Alternatively, once kissed, perhaps her veela powers wore off.
- Alternatively, perhaps Ron's shifted his attention elsewhere.

This first chapter and the finale of the book are my favourite parts of all the HP books!

Sort of the first appearances of Voldemort in the series – as a person, not just a face on the back of Quirrell's head. I like both those scenes too, they really shift the series into high gear, and you know things are about to get serious.

In the first book we don’t start with Harry’s POV either- it’s McGonagall and Dumbledore mostly

I should rephrase and say it's the first chapter since the very start, since i recall the series beginning with Vernon's POV as well 😀
There's a small scene in the first book, while Harry is playing Quidditch, that switches to Ron and Hermione and Malfoy in the stands. It felt odd to switch like that.

What I really meant was that this is the first chapters since the very first one in the series that Harry's not in – though he is mentioned, as he was in that very first one.
