(1) '"Stop being noble," said Harry irritably. "Just take it, then we can get out of here."'
- Yeah, Cedric, stop being noble! Wait... no! Be noble! Take a dive!
(2) First student death, and the series is never the same again.
(3) Baby Voldemort is no Baby Yoda.
(4) Color-changing tattoos would be a goldmine!
(5) "Lord Voldemort had risen again."

Notes:
(1) For someone who doesn't think much of muggles, Fudge sure loves to wear their clothes.
(2) "Sirius Black!" [Mrs. Weasley] shrieked, pointing at him.
"Mum, shut up!" Ron yelled. "It’s okay!"'
- Often a good "shut up" is the quickest remedy for hysteria.
(3) Dumbledore forces Sirius and Snape to shake hands. Ever the teacher, ever the students.

Notes:
(1) Fawkes uses his tears to speed up Harry's wounds healing. That's handy... sort of like wizard Polysporin.
(2) Now that Fleur likes Ron and pays him attention, I guess she's not hot no more. Not surprising. (see gif)
- Alternatively, once kissed, perhaps her veela powers wore off.
- Alternatively, perhaps Ron's shifted his attention elsewhere.

Notes:
(1) Harry's first clue should have been that Crouch always called Voldemort "The Dark Lord." All upright wizards use "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named." The boldest just say Voldemort.
(2) Wonder if all the lip licking meant David Tennant needed ChapStick on standby?
(3) Karkaroff fled? Who's going to sail the ship back to Durmstrang? Magic, most likely.

Notes:
(1) Not the most impressive group of Death Eaters here. A bunch of no-names, Buckbeak's would-be executioner and some Slytherin dads.
(2) Wormtail speaks rat. Apparently being animagus gives you the ability to speak to animals. I guess McGonagall speaks cat.
(3) Voldemort gives a traditional villain tell-all monologue. A tad cliché if you ask me.

(1) Harry: "Mrs. Weasley, you didn’t believe that rubbish Rita Skeeter wrote in Witch Weekly, did you? Because Hermione’s not my girlfriend."
Molly: "Oh! ... No — of course I didn’t!"
Narrator: "But she became considerably warmer toward Hermione after that."

- The male cheerleader on the right's creeping me out.
(2) "Fleur ... was eyeing Bill with great interest over her mother’s shoulder. Harry could tell she had no objection whatsoever to long hair or earrings with fangs on them."
- Fleur loves ze bad boys.

Glitchreads:
(1) Somehow, my recent review for "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" switched editions. Normally I'd switch it back, but it's the second review I've written for the book, and Goodreads only lets you switch the edition of either your earlier or more popular review. So now my book covers no longer match! and my OCD is driving me nuts!

(1) Krum's oddly puritan about Hermione possibly being with other guys. Who knew?
(2) Hagrid: “The less you lot ’ave ter do with these foreigners, the happier yeh’ll be. Yeh can’ trust any of ’em.”
Harry: “You were getting on all right with Madame Maxime.”
Hagrid: “Don’ you talk ter me abou’ her! ... You can’ trust any of ’em!”

"Your mum doesn’t read 'Witch Weekly,' by any chance, does she, Ron?" she asked quietly.
"Yeah ... Gets it for the recipes."
Hermione looked sadly at her tiny egg.'

(1) Ron: "I told you not to annoy Rita Skeeter! She’s made you out to be some sort of — of scarlet woman!"
Hermione: "Scarlet woman?"
Ron: "It’s what my mum calls them."
- "Scarlet Woman" is one of my favorite euphemisms.
(2) I'm not gonna lie, I thoroughly enjoy drunk Winky.
(3) Gosh, house elves get downright mean when you insist they unionize.

Jayson Mena wrote: "Huh. That's true. It took 4 books for a student to die on page. Never considered that"

Yeah, the closest we had until now was Basilisk petrification, which was at least treated like death for a bit until we learned it could be reversed.

🌸 Tana 🌸 I'm laughing so hard about about point (3) because no, he for sure is not 😂

Jayson Darce wrote: "ooft point (2) is definitely right"

It's one of the reasons why I consider the last four books four parts of one really long book. Stylistically and thematically, things get super-dark! Like crossing the storytelling Rubicon. It's not kids stuff anymore.

I will say, they do kinda dress the same... I'll give Voldemort that. 😁

Juho Pohjalainen This scene seriously freaked me out when I first read it as a twelve-year-old. Even as a grown-up it makes me a bit queasy.

Jayson Juho wrote: "This scene seriously freaked me out when I first read it as a twelve-year-old. Even as a grown-up it makes me a bit queasy."

It's definitely a shock to people used to and expecting something akin to the first three films. There's really no easing into it.

Ryan Buckby i love reading your updates Jayson! you're re-read is making me want to re-read the series for myself again

Mrinmayi Cedric's death became more heartbreaking when his father grieved 😟
I remember thinking how a single step could have avoided his death
Also....let's take a moment and appreciate the bravery of Hufflepuff
I see many people making fun of Hufflepuff house and it's infuriating
Cedric did not run from his fate....which makes the entire" Cedric turns into a death eater" plotline nonsense 😑

Jayson Ryan wrote: "i love reading your updates Jayson! you're re-read is making me want to re-read the series for myself again"

Yes, I agree about the scene with his father. To me, that's probably one the hardest to watch in the whole series.

Hmm... I'm not familiar with any theory about Cedric turning into a Death Eater. I mean, his body was brought back, wasn't it? I'm afraid I've been out of the loop on fan speculation since the series wrapped up. 🤷‍♂️

Ah, okay. I've read The Cursed Child, but must have blacked that out of my memory. To me, that's just licensed fanfic, and so I don't take any of it seriously, and certainly not as official canon. The whole thing was just full of ridiculous twist after ridiculous twist.

Mahmuda Shabnoor Cedric's father's grief become more heartbreaking on 'The Cursed Child'
errr...sorry for spoiler

Rochelle ✿ ^^^ WELL guess I'm staying as far away from The Cursed Child as I possibly can

Jayson Juho wrote: "What?

It's one of those things where you sort of have to read it and judge for yourself. Buzz for that book can be like a game of telephone.

Trust me...l have read better fanfiction than the 'Cursed Child'
I pretend it does not exist 😞
But some of the plots were so ridiculous l can't help but cringe😖

Jayson Mahmuda wrote: "Cedric's father's grief become more heartbreaking on 'The Cursed Child'

I'll have to look that up when I have the chance, if anything for comparison's sake. I've completely forgot the finer details of The Cursed Child. I only really remember the broad strokes of it.

Jayson Roel ✿ wrote: "^^^ WELL guess I'm staying as far away from The Cursed Child as I possibly can"

I actually enjoyed The Cursed Child for what it was. The thing is you can't go into it thinking it's a sequel to the series, that'll just make you angry. You have to treat the whole thing as a "what if" scenario. In a sort of fanfic, alternate reality, dystopia sense, it's fine enough.

message 24: by Mrinmayi (new)

I request you to not read the Cursed child 🙏🏽
I don't want anyone else to go through the emotional trauma l went through
It does not add to experience
The only thing it does is confuse and irritate us😔😑

message 25: by Juho (new) - rated it 4 stars

Juho Pohjalainen I think I'll give it a pass as well. True, it might give me better context on what the hell all of this means - but I'd much rather read something good.

Oh, I'm certain there's better Harry Potter fanfiction around. I'm just saying it is what it is, and should be judged on the fanfic scale, and not as an official continuation of the story. But pretending it doesn't exist works fine too :)

Well, I thought it was decent enough for what it was. But, it's definitely not for everyone. Plus it's a screenplay, that might not be for everyone either. Best to stick with books you think you'll enjoy :)

The best parts of that book was getting to see the characters again. What they did with the characters is certainly debatable, but getting to see them again was fun.

to be honest i am not a baby yoda fan. well actually star wars fan in general.

Annie The more I hear about the Cursed Child the more convinced i am that I’m right not to read it. I really would rather read a spin-off about other characters. It’s an utter shame because there are so many interesting side characters to use

I don't know if I'm a Baby Yoda fan. I do acknowledge that it's a great design, and I think it's the best thing to come out of Star Wars since the original trilogy. And I say that as someone who doesn't really care for Star Wars generally.

Jayson Annie wrote: "The more I hear about the Cursed Child the more convinced i am that I’m right not to read it. I really would rather read a spin-off about other characters. It’s an utter shame because there are so ..."

I'd like some spin-off stories as well. But Rowling seems resolute in not doing so. I think if she was at all inclined to it she would have written some by now. I've not read the Fantastic Beasts books or seen the movies, but I guess those could count as spin-offs. I'll eventually get to them, but I've heard iffy things about them that have been putting me off. I guess like people who hear iffy things about The Cursed Child, though that definitely has more emotion and vitriol surrounding its buzz.

Sophia If you haven't watched the first Fantastic Beasts movie, I'd recommend it! The second one is iffy but I'm hoping its because it's part of a larger story that will eventually make sense.

Thanks for the recommendation, Sophia! I'll probably watch it right after I read the book, which should be sooner than later. Possibly in the next few months. Glad to know that the first one is good at least :)

I enjoyed the book but it's definitely more textbooky than anything else. There are a couple of cool little notes from the characters which make it better!
