Imani is reading Atlas Alone (Planetfall #4)
I've listened to the audiobook version and it was phenomenal. Emma Newman is an excellent author and narrator as well. The crafty juxtaposition of raw human emotion and Black Mirror-esque cosmic horror themes in this series blows my mind. Such an epic saga.

"As a general rule, Alexander found everything suspicious. Like, why didn't women's clothes have pockets? And why did most mammals walk on four legs while humans used only two? And especially why did we see only one side of the moon? What was the other side trying to hide?'

I love how detailed and vivid the story telling is in this book. Asking all these important questions we need answers to!

I am thoroughly enjoying this book. It is dripping in sarcasm! Even from the ghosts! I love all the characters and how silly, quirky and endearing this all is.

I just need to put a break on it for now, so I can actually do things like chores and work in real life. Because knowing me, I'll get tied up and lost track of time from reading endlessly.

I feel like this Jane person is actually me in a literally sense:

"That was all the opportunity she needed. Jane fled, pausing only to swipe a pickled egg or two from the floor on her way out, because she had learned never to leave a room with free food without grabbing some."

Me, that's me. Same philosophy. Waste not, want not.

"Charlotte had always known Jane to be a kind, thoughtful sort of person. Even when she was committing murder, she was thinking of others."

I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this book!
This Jane sounds inspirational!

ooo weee!

Will, Will, Will. A poor innocent man made into a monster.
A desperate man is a dangerous man. So close to the ending yet who knows what will come of him.
And great Cathy for literally 'sticking it to the Man!'

Oooo how things are shaking up!

Not just with Cathy, Sam and Max's plan with the mysterious and nefarious Beatrice.
But also with the Fae families in Albion, plus I love the new addition to the perspectives for more info in the Nether by Tom and Lucy. I love them.
That scene at the ball with Lucy's cousin and the pamphlet had me cracking up! Loved it!

"I rather die than eat this sh*t and pretend like it taste good."

That's a rebel. SO proud of Cathy and her preserved fighting spirit. The men in the Nether are so naive and condescending believing what's good for a women is always keeping her safe. Because only a little fear is better than living in terror.
What messed up mindsets. Smh

This seems like another 'Less-Than-24-Hour-Read'. It's that intriguing.

Ever since Chapter 3, I can't stop reading!

It's midnight and I'm calling it a break now cuz I don't want to hurt my eyes and I need to go asleep! But as soon as I wake up, I'm finishing this for sure!

The fact that I know what happened to the Pathfinder in 'Planetfall' and the planet Earth at the end of 'After Atlas', just drives me crazy because SPOILER!!

This trilogy is going backwards in chronological order!

Even though Newman has managed to still keep me on my toes with the suspense and mystery of not knowing what's coming next!

I'm mad but impressed.

' "People will disappoint you with their cruelty every time." '

The ability that Hoffman has to bluntly show the atrocious and complexities of humanity and the consequences of our action, is phenomenal. Her stories are always so thought provoking.

It's taking me longer than I imagined to read this, though I believed it would have been a faster read thanks to its Gothic inspiration of Beauty and the Beast set in a Southern town with a modern setting with a murder mystery and ghosts to help suck me in until the very end.
I think I got discouraged after the union of Bellamy and Tate being a couple just halfway through the book, and Slow Burns are more my taste.

Little to no social graces or skills. He doesn't compliment, simply observes:
"'That's quite sharp, Miss Rook. Quite sharp, indeed. '
'You think so? Is that helpful to the investigation?'
'Not in the slightest - but very keen, nonetheless. Very keen.'" Ha!

And folklore and fairy tales creatures appear or are mentioned in this book?! Makes me even more eager, that's for sure!

Jackaby is priceless.
A true imitation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character to a T! But with an added touch of the supernaturnal, set in New England and with a smart, level-headed young female assistant to boot! Very promising,

"He never lies," Aja says proudly. "None of us do. Lies are rust on iron. A blemish on power."
Power they're so drunk on, they can't even remember how many lies they stand upon. 'Tell my people you don't lie, you brutish b*tch, and see what they do to you.'
pg. 139
Well dang Darrow, that's just savage. And I respect that.

I'm a little confused on which theme the book is trying to sell me: Mystery, Fanfiction or Romance. I feel like this book is confused on what it wants to be. The narration is quite limiting and a little frustrating- no, very frustrating. I want to give up.... This is more like a quiet disappointment instead of an angry blowup. A book you put down with a dejected sigh.
