Definitely some inconsistencies, but I liked Jack’s arc in this one.

This series has been a fun, but mundane read… Until this book. Finally some conflict, double-crossing, mystery… Finally.

I’m torn on this rating.

Clearly, the writing, world building, and character development are as good as it gets.

Why then, was the book SO hard to get through? I feel like I’ve read books of equal length far more quickly — and with far more joy.

That being said, the book is good. Maybe just not my style.

The first was pretty mediocre, but I have a 3 in case series got better. I’m reading this one a 2. But I finished. And I might even give the third a chance. Time will tell.

Not Bellow’s best work, imho, but his style and pacing never disappoints.

Pretty well-written LitRPG if you like video game narrative.

This review is like the smell of an unrequited kiss, the touch of a rancid rose, and the sound of a ghost’s breath on your shoulder.

Interesting way to team this history, even of some of the dialog (especially, Nella’s) is pedantic.

Mildly interesting and entertaining, but ultimately contrived.

I just cannot express how good this series of books is. I could read them forever.

Maybe 2.5… I wasn’t completely into this one.

A book of this magnitude deserves 5/5 stars. I gave it 4/5 purely for the fact that I found some of it pretty meandering. But I will definitely read the sequel.

Yeah, I’m a kook. Fourth time — and loving it even more.

The best of the series -- with a great ending to boot.
