A lot of internal politics this book - but the battles have been mainly centred on Tsubodai's push into Russia.

Plenty of large scale battles and sieges. I think Bernard Cornwell does these a lot more realistically - but this is still pretty good.

Ok - Joe Abercrombie and Peter F Hamilton had a baby which turned out to be a cross between First Law and The Void Trilogies. That's just my first impressions - and this was written first - and it's more intense. Very good start.
