ugh the Pioneers section is utterly worthless. structurally these latter pages are haphazard

The more it attempts to incorporate social trends and intertwine itself with history, the less I like it

enjoying but less down for the forspoiling, oral-history celebrity-profile bits. I trust she means more by them in the final calculus but they have the effect of diminishing the development of the story, not manufacturing more interest. we do not need more of Daisy Jones and The Six’ ilk

breaks in voice that I wish she’d lean in to: the bit about the intimacy of D&D, where is that coming from? because it’s not outside Sam’s perspective / also noting the laptop is 20 lbs, that’s something that’s distinctive *now* but wasn’t *then*.

(these aren’t transgressions, they’re just slight flaws that could be strengths)

the specter of old age in this novel is both absolutely credible and utterly terrifying
