The postmortem on the 1989 show is revealing, but the author again tries to blame Spielberg, implying that because he had such success in the 80s he wasn’t a “serious” filmmaker and that the decade’s sex comedies, culminating in the Snow White opening number fiasco, can be blamed on Indiana Jones, E.T. and Star Wars.

This is not a rigorously critical book.

This is the kind of nonfiction I can alternate with more demanding fiction

Erections and couplings are not nearly as essential as they’re treated here. Might be this novel’s most dated characteristic.

maybe my favorite line yet: “For this crew, nostalgia is like seasickness: only the hope of dying from it is keeping them alive.”
