Very detailed such that at terms it disrupts the historical narrative, but perhaps that's indicative of just complex the decline of the Ottoman Empire was. Fromkin does a good job in explaining the inter-Arab, inter-Turk divisions without placing current conflicts on the past. This is apparent with his very careful and balanced treatment of fuzy geographic regions like Palestine and Syria.
