Anybody else get annoyed by the paper string thingies in Hershey's Kisses? Just wonderin' 🤷‍♂️

The anger that tightens my chest makes it hard to breathe. Losing my shit and ripping them apart for sneaking around behind my back would help ease my rage, but it’s so much more satisfying to play the long game and gather as much information as possible, then use that info to destroy every aspect of their lives that I can. You fuck with me or mine, and you’re going to discover what it truly means to find out.

He had a voice. I don't care who says otherwise. His voice sounded the same way that comfortable silences sound, especially the ones spent in the presence of your closest friends. This is what life is, these moments of fireworks and exploding stars and synapses blazing.

“What you got there?” He’s peering over at me, his eyes half-closed.

“A hotel?” Sandy asks. “We’ll just have to bunk up a bit. But since we’re all such good friends, I don’t think that’s an issue, do you?” He smiles at Kori. “You’ll be in my bed, darling, but don’t get any ideas. I’ve given my heart to Jesus.”

“Poor Jesus,” Kori says.

“Mouthy little bitch,” Sandy says.

He draws in a gasping breath and grabs my wrists, but his grip is loose and his body relaxed. I expect to see fear and shock in his expression. His eyes are so bright they almost look backlit, and the sparks in them make him look more alive than I’ve ever seen him. Usually his eyes are totally uninterested in everything around him. The change is exhilarating, and I don’t understand why it excites me so much.

WAY too much in-their-head blah-blah-blah wordiness and filler. This woulda been much better as a novella. LOTS of skimming happenin' 🙄

Watching Sky made me feel like nothing could hurt me. I knew that didn't make sense, but nothing about Sky made sense. Everywhere he went, he practically glowed. He saw beauty in the mundane: a dirt road he passed every morning, a loaf of frybread that took five minutes to make. That ability made him the most beautiful of all. I doubt it occurred to him, though. Beautiful people never know they're beautiful.

I pushed the flute into his hands. "Maybe you can't sing. But anyone can play the Plains flute. You don't need vocal cords for that. Just breath."

I wanted Sky to talk. I wanted Sky to sing. I wanted everyone to hear his voice the way I heard it, soft and mellow, mild. His voice was already a song. I heard it sometimes when I was alone, except I was never alone; he'd given me his light to keep.

I have no idea what to expect from this ... new author ... but it's been on my tablet forever and it's time to get it off. No pun intended. 😏 I'll either love it and fly through or it won't work and I'll DNF. 🤷‍♂️ Cover boy ... and Cancun ... lovely! 🤤

“Too late,” Anna says, cuffing Creed upside the head. “If it bothers you that much, you can sleep on the couch. Why are we hiding behind Gross Bush Tree Thing?”

“Planning murder,” Creed explains.

Her eyes go wide. “Oooh! It’s been so long since I’ve done that.”

“What about last week when I left the toilet seat up again and you fell in at three in the morning?”

“You and Corey, huh?” he said in an off-handed tone.

I gaped at him, suddenly and without warning unable to form any kind of coherent sentence. Instead, I said, “Gah?”

He nodded. “You guys look… nice… together.”

“Guh? Gah?”

“I’m happy for you, Tyson. I really am. I hope he treats you right.”

“We’re….” I stopped and cleared my throat. “He’s not… I don’t…. Guh?”

“Therapy is bullshit. I sit here and listen to you and offer you pretty words of advice, but it’s up to you to figure it out. And that’s what happens. Most of the time. I just let you think I’m helping you. But really, it’s you who needs to help yourself. I can teach you the art of breathing, Tyson. But it’s up to you to actually do it.”
