We’re completely identical, down to the few birthmarks we have. Not even our parents can tell us apart when we don’t want them to. When we were ten, we asked our mother if she ever mixed us up as babies because we assumed she had some sort of mom power and would know which one of us was which. She admitted that they mixed us up so many times that it’s possible we’ve been living as each other our whole lives.

I wanted more paddleboarding with my brothers, more chatting with Laura while she baked. I wanted more nights with my dad in his recliner watching TV, and me on the couch working on my travel book. More of me fixing things with him watching over my shoulder, telling me how to do what I already knew how to do, and irritating me to death. Oh wait, that’s a different list—the Let’s Have Fucking Less of That list.
