Oh god, sex obsessed characters and a boring-ass plot about rich people rivalries. Thank goodness the imagined world is interesting.

So damn good.

I'm either just over a quarter or just over half way through. And I guess I have liked about 25 to 50% of what I've read so far too. It's not that I don't like this one but I'm not super into it.

Well, that escalated quickly. The Last audiobook was 18hrs and this one jumped to 40hrs!

Also, this book starts pretty brutally and has pretty much carried that vibe for the first few chapters.

With a bit of luck, I should squeeze this in before bedtime :)

Book 8 is book 6, but better.

In contex, the dead are often not really dead because their brains have been scanned and uploaded to a virtual heaven -- this bro is mourning the loss of his wife who wasn't saved to disk.

Far out. I can't wait to finish this. I sincerely contemplated moving it to DNF status, but I'm going to ride it out.

No, it was in book 3, 'Use of Weapons' when General Cheradenine Zakalwe has the angry lady tied up and she's describing what she wishes will occur to him.

That's the second time a quote like that has occurred in this series. I think something almost identical was said in book four, though it might have been in book three.

The end of chapter 1 is fire 🔥 and I just want to follow that guy around for the rest of the book.

I hate to get on the bandwagon, but this is a much stronger story.

I'm in Chapter 10 now and it seems to be gradually feeling more like a scifi than a fantasy adventure. I'm coming around to it.

I'd call it an unappealing start. Which is a terrible shame. I've had these and been looking forward to them for donkey's years.

I was feeling a little underwhelmed and not really sure how to connect this to the rest of the series. So I decided to check what I had written down about the earlier three novels. It seems like this one is on par with the third book, interesting but not quite fully engaging. Unlike the first two, both of which I loved.
