1) volume 2 ending at a clean 600 pages is so satisfying

2) this section absolutely goes OFF i 100% understand why this is the part they made a musical out of holy shit

this isn't specific to this book but. the feeling of reading a book you listened to as a road trip audiobook and feeling the cities you drove through rising around you in your mind

as a communist i know i should say that zara deserves the guillotine but she is so funny

maybe it's because elena got to me but the way tolstoy writes helene makes me want to kill

v2 p1 is FAR and above my favorite part of this book so far holy SHIT this part went so hard. this is the superior segment

maybe THIS will make the war parts of war and peace coherent! probably not. but maybe

finished v1p3 and thus all of volume 1!! definitely enjoying it so far even if this man needs an editor so bad... yes it’s been 300 pages but i am decidedly attached to at least some of the characters now (hi kuragins, nikolai, and andrei even if there’s something decidedly wrong with him god bless 💕)

it will never not be kind of funny when tolstoy refers to the entire russian army in first person plural as “we” and then two pages later describes said army being in absolute jackshit disarray

andrei there is something deeply wrong with you but congrats on getting me emotionally attached about it i guess?
