The other day while walking my dog, I stumbled across an eerily empty park about a half mile from house--NOT in the middle of nowhere--that looked like it hadn't been visited in years. I noped right tf out of there.

I can't get over how much Jessica Jones looks like Tommy Wiseau whenever she wears sunglasses... and she wears sunglasses a LOT.

good lord, the storyboarding on this is just... wow. next level stuff.

I really respect Asano for having a scene where a late-20-something woman having sex with a 14-year-old is shown as both NOT being fully consensual AND Punpun being at least partially traumatized by it. A lesser writer (especially in a genre littered with fan service) would've made it sexy, but the reader is made to feel uncomfortable.

Poison River was... fantastic. An emotional prequel-sequel bookend to the Heartbreak Soup saga. On to Love & Rockets X!

I'm always fascinated by Los Bros Hernández and their beyond-progressive inclusion of a wide variety of LGBT characters. Poison River has an entire cast of trans & intersex women, plus openly gay characters who aren't token or stereotypes. And this is written in the 1980s, taking place in the 1960s!

I can't figure out the worldbuilding here (magical realism? reality seen through a child's imagination? straight up lite sci-fi?) but part of why I'm so engaged is not yet knowing what the hell is going on

Donna Tartt is a master of writing awful characters in a way that makes you care about them, jeez

This is a slow book for me. It’s very fact-based with little skill for storytelling, and with my depression coming back I’m tired all the damn time. It’s hard to not get sleepy reading it.
