it took me a little while to really grok what he's trying to do with this prequel/origin story, in part because we've known exactly who Hutch is for so many years now that it's hard to get back to a time before she was established.

It is doing some interesting things with the inherent privilege of early superluminal spaceflight, and mcdevitt is always so solid. Weird having a new narrator for the audio?

a bit ho-hum so far, but ho-hum McDevitt is a lot better than ho-hum anyone else

finally getting back to good books after an awful season.

wow this started good and just slowed way the eff down. this is what happens when we start a bunch of crowd-pleasing audibles for road trips that only i'll be on the hook to finish.

finally getting some reading time

faster going, but this has that problem so common in accidental detective stories that the crime just isn't that interesting

slow going, i hate this time of year (for reading at least)

I was looking for popcorn, and this definitely seems to fit that bill. TBD whether i'll find it compelling enough to continue the series.
