Truly a remarkable postmodern Catholic novel! It is fascinating and never moves from its narrow scope. Fosse puts a more traditionally positive, stoic face on reality than Beckett, but his immovabiliy is identical.

A staunchly agnostic novel about a pain-ridden (primarily the psychological variety of unease) Irishman who nevertheless seems to achieve a sort of inner balance through an esoteric Spiritual Attunement.

If you ever want to get back to the more traditional - instead of psychological - police procedurals, Roger Silverwood's a darned fine, economical place to start!
