Bookwhoring so bad right now...but hardboiled L.A. goodness sounded good.

I love how uninterested Cook is in writing typical fantasy stories. At a lot of parts this is really more of a fucked-up heist/crime film in a fantasy setting than what you'd think of as a "fantasy novel".

I get bored easily with coming-of-age stuff but this is really entertaining. Hobb's writing is like a well-made garment and the worldbuilding has been nothing but sturdy.

Not sure if this is the next book after White Rose but The Internet seems to think so.

Coming back to this one and I've almost finished it in a couple sittings. Unutterable awesomeness, plus someone just said "Let us murder Murder together" with a straight face.

The author's insistence on including so many uninteresting and basically useless POVs is really hurting the book's pace for me. Sucks.

Every time I put this book down I feel out of it for a while--like I just woke up from a really long bad dream.

This book is a lot of fun. Its mix of realistic middle ages military detail, gritty characters and constant gruesome monster killing checks all the nerd boxes.

Guardians of the Galaxy was awesomeasfuck.

At a near-stop with this one...so goddamn slow. How can The Civil War 2 be this boring?

Honor is checking all the Mary Sue boxes so far, but I still like her. The politics and worldbuilding are neat, but the hard science stuff is giving me a headache.

Granted I'm only a little over a third of the way through the book but I really do not see the justification for the rampant crying about the sex in this book that plagues the Goodreads page. Follett ain't got shit on the kings of messily graphic and arguably wanton sex scenes like Gary Jennings, George RR Martin, Tim Willocks, etc.

One of the most epic feasts I've encountered. Despite all the focus on sailing around killing people and taking their shit, I have to admire their love of stories.
