Laymon reminds me a lot of Jack Ketchum, in that reading their books are like watching an under-budgeted super tasteless '70s horror/exploitation flick. I like it, but it just leaves a gross taste in your mouth.

Degradation Rites has to be the worst story in this book...half rehash/recap of stuff we already know, half creepy alien-sex wish fulfillment exercise.

Ellroy's postwar L.A. is so gross and dark that I feel like a need a mental teeth brushing after a couple pages, but I also kinda wanna hang out here forever.
