That Deck Reading was so well written, damn.

Chapter 1 was a wonderful reunion with so many characters, while the seeds of chaos were planted in the foreboding nature of so much of the chapter. I cannot wait for this Deck of Dragons reading.

So begins the epic conclusion. I'm very happy to get back to Malazan, even if this particular entry is a bit divisive.

Part 4!

Part 3! The Mass Effect vibes continue, and it's certainly not a bad thing.

Getting Citadel from Mass Effect vibes from Part II. And each development is pretty exciting! I love how easy and entertaining this series is.

Strong start to a series that I was excited to get back to! I know Brandon won't disappoint.

Chapter 130. Mostly indifferent towards this final battle so far. I feel like most of it has just been Kip 'willing' himself into things to accomplish feats that have never been shown before. Not the most engaging to read. Not to mention the general mess that the battle is not including that. Some cool moments scattered throughout, though. And a different PoV elsewhere has been pretty great at least.

Rough couple of chapters for our characters. It went about how I thought it would.

Last 60 pages or so were the best of the book. Now we're talking.

It's finally getting interesting.

"Let's go find God. I'll bring the sword, just in case He's a dick."

The epic conclusion begins and I am only moderately excited. Let's see if Weeks can stick the landing.

This is just so good so consistently. And funny too:

Relevant passage in chapter 6 with respect to the worst of the worst kind of people of this series. Onto book 2, with book 1 being perhaps the strongest book 1 of any Malazan book! Confusing, yes I know.

"Sacrifices must be weighted by the pain of what is surrendered, and this alone was the true measure of a virtue's worth." Chapter 5, and this book might have the strongest start of any Malazan book so far.

Finished Part 1 in one sitting. All of these characters are perfectly characterized and intertwined with the history of the world, already. Abercrombie is a genius. This book started perfectly.
