I’m really not feeling this one. The interstitial Whisper bits are even worse than in book 2.

Two people coincidentally sneaking into the same secure facility at the same time that a third party happens to launch an attack there is maybe a coincidence too far. Not a good start for this book.

Yeah, the casual sexism in this book is pretty egregious. It's short enough that I'll push through and finish, but this is the last thing I'm reading from this author.

Please stop talking about how attractive your female roommate is.

Well, my Kindle says I only have an hour left in this book. So that’s something, at least.

It’s not just that I don’t care about The Smiths. I straight up don’t know enough about music to be able to follow a lot of this narrative. The author just mentioned “a spaghetti rockabilly skiffle riff” in one of their songs. What does that even mean, and why would you say it without any further explanation?

The end is almost in sight.

This is taking forever to read, and I’m really not enjoying any of it.

I’m so glad I decided to reread these books. I loved them when I was in high school, but every single one so far has turned out to be even better than I remember.

HERPEVANGELISM

Regularly referring to character Eve Black as "the Black woman" is super weird, especially for those of us listening to the book on audio.

What is even the point of including such a specific Doctor Who reference if you're going to get it wrong?

This book is so good.

Ugh. I had been enjoying this, but it’s suddenly taken a very sexist turn.

Everyone in this book is so sweet and wonderful! But I keep having to pause my audiobook to google fanart to really get a good visual for some of these alien species.
