This book is so weird.

I sort of forgot I was reading this. Whoops! Back at it now.

Having two different viewpoint characters named Henry is SUPER unnecessary.

O, Discordia!

Overall a mixed bag. I haven't been rating each story as I go, but 3 stars for the book feels likely at this point.

More things happen in Chapter 1 of The Dark Tower than in all of Song of Susannah, and that is the truth.

This has the same problem as People of the Book, in that the historical scenes are way more interesting than the researchers' lives in the present.

This book is taking quite a while to really justify its existence.

Got this back from the library. Really enjoying it, especially how the author has expanded the scope from the original trilogy while maintaining the same excitement and heart.

This book is good, but I care about one of these viewpoint characters way more than the other two.

So far in this short book, Hemingway has already used the n-word for black people, the f-word for gay people, and the k-word for Jewish people. No usage criticized within the text. I know it was a different time and that these characters are awful people, but yeesh.

Okay, so backstory: super-powered people were oppressed, then the Anarchist supers overthrew the government, then the Renegade supers overthrew the Anarchists. Nova's parents were murdered and she blames the Renegades for not saving them, then she went to live with her Anarchist uncle, who was subsequently killed by Renegades.

There's a lot going on there, and so far we've gotten to see very little of it firsthand.

There's a whole lot of telling and not showing in this book so far. Also, 'Renegades' is a weird name for your law-enforcement (and government?? unclear.) superhero group.

This book, on the other hand, I am enjoying immensely.

That secret took way too long to come out, but at least we’ve still got half a book left for some honesty now.
