Read Stanley Elkin's "The Guest", Flannery O'Connor's "Parker's Back", and Nabokov's "The Potato-Elf". Now up to "Nabokov's Puppet Show" by Alfred Appel, Jr. (an essay of literary criticism, despite the subtitle of the book promising fiction).
