Some reject insecticides nonetheless accept herbicides. Carson tells the damage of both. Hazardous runoff from herbicides. The mixture of profit & science. Science that seeks to preserve & conserve wildlife is a hindrance, an obstruct, over which barrel onward the science that seeks to maximize profit.

Whoa. Whoa--
Think I need to adjust my self & expectations. 1) obviously a female author writing a male character, it's off-putting & forced 2) appreciate cursing but w/previous point it doesn't seem timely, or at all how young black men speak 3) so he's gay, or?
But I'm going along w/vibe & style. My latest sci fi reads have had homosexuality front & center. It's starting to wear! Jemisin is writing a gay male MC?

She explains the ecology of soil, & the members, the fungi, lichen, moss, & the husks of dead insects, on to the earthworm. She explains also the importance of fixing nitrogen, & of carbon becoming acid that can break down minerals. The permanence of chemicals is fearsome & worrisome. This book's a landmark one & I understand why. It's written with sweeping lucidity & details a sobering reality.

Contamination of groundwater; use of DDD; lakes in CA poisoned; grebes; the parts per million of a poison mean nothing when micro flora can take in & magnify the concentration; arsenic; all water contaminated; trying to get rid of gnats; sportsmen affecting water of reservoirs.

Another sobering read, aiming to finish it by end of week, hoping to do it sooner.

Find myself thinking about my own life the same: a series, of sequences, memorable events, faces that were connected to periods, how it all flashes like some slideshow

"Hyperion" & "Rise Of Endymion" for corp wars sprawling across worlds
Duncan Idaho for the madness of memories from other selves
The film "Tenet" for the jumping back & forth
And any sci-fi that has mil-action.
Cruelty setting in: killing innocents, being misinformed about purposes, & blind obedience of soldiers.
Hurley's writing continues to shine, the interrogation scenes fit perfectly, & the action is epic.

Rich storytelling, world-building, reader's left to wonder & figure, to marvel at this undefined future time. Bit of Connie Willis "Blackout/All Clear" w/drops & time-displacement. Hurley adds concise detail here & there, a description of a street, or the way a person is doing some thing, the glances & body language, reminiscent of Frank Herbert's attentive writing.
Still wildly confused tho!

Action is intense, charged, the camaraderie comes across strong, the danger is palpable w/pulse rifles & beams from ships, being dropped into combat. Still a lot of confusion, especially since Norbert has come into play w/The Man. Wonder what St. Petersburg is about, NorRus, but the story's very engaging. Digging it.

Thoroughly puzzled, mystified, a little bewildered, & pretty damned confused. Story'd getting away from me? Is he jumping time/space?
Gnarly battle scene. Interesting move w/sex scene. Realized that Hurley was committing full-tilt to the havoc. Terminator-esque. Author uses corp in different modes: military unit, financial group, & __? Could use more exposition NorRus, & CanKru--, ShinHana, et al.

Haldeman's "Forever War" & Card's "Ender's Game".
It's beginning to be a big mind-fu#! w/his lapses of memory, location, etc.
Really interested now to learn what's going on, why he has different squads, & what is the unique attribute that he has.
Kameron Hurley has moments of attractive writing. When he describes chairs, or colors, or any setting, I feel relieved & appreciative for the minute details.

Hm, the single narrative is useful in driving the story but the character is starting to wear. There aren't any great actions or wise sayings, nothing really eventful apart from a slight disdain for authority.

Short book, already at 8%, has hardly been 12 hours. I like the guy-ness of this book, the mil-think, the running narrative of a dude who speaks crudely & takes moments as they come.

Cool, okay, the background was just given, seems very interesting, there are certainly some big magical techs, enough to turn folks into light particles, & Mars looms big in the whole picture, but no other planets yet, just mention of the asteroid belt, the enormity of distances, & of course, the Moon. So far only one character, seems likable, a guy (a break from my last read).

Well I'm on pace to complete it by sundown, wonder which fiction I'll get into next? Jap-Fi is on its own track, so too is the non-fi on Nayriz, & Silent Spring will be completed next week, it ain't terribly long.
This read is fresh, relevant, very progressive w/tech & gender, slightly dystopian but more so plausible.

Just loving the pace & flow, how there are sexual tones but they don’t drown out the moment, & though I can’t entirely relate to the lack/absence of Hetero-affections I still find the romances & flirtations to be interesting. The germophobia is real, & this book illustrates how humans can prefer either to live in bubbles or to mingle w/people in the flesh.

I like the spirit of her, how she keeps moving and stays true to the craft, and how detached she is from the world and the surface of the business of music.

Someday I will be able to read a book in the confines of a room or apartment that I've paid for. This is unbearable living at home. My sister who does absolutely nothing all day, every day, & is not married, or engaged, or employed, just a living breathing person, day in day out. I have to bear listening to chanting, a thing that makes me want to end my life every time I hear it. But this is what God wills for me.

So Rosemary’s a virgin (if she doesn’t hug people & if crowds & people freak her out, then). Enjoying. But why/how is Rosemary hired & doing her job? She continues to be this out-of-place character, it’s cool, but she really has no life at al! Anyway, book’s still fantastic. The connection to real, live music playing rings true. And the congregation laws feel to be coming right around corner in real world.
